On Tuesday, March 5, a large group of some of the finest citizens of Mason gathered for a dinner and celebration of volunteerism in our community. There were 230 volunteers from 8 to 98 years young who regularly give of their time and talents to support the many different non-profit groups that make our town rich and lively.

The Study Club enjoyed a delicious lunch with samplings which will be served at the Study Club’s upcoming April 28th Tea. Hostesses included Mariana Davis, Diane Evans, Martha Henry, Johnny Heidelberg, Joan Lindley, and Pam Scott.
Two presenters (in photo with Vice President Joyce Mutschink) delighted the members with stories of the Underground Railroad and jewelry with a message.
Storytime is held Mondays at 10:30 A.M. in the Kid’s Zone of the Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library, 410 Post Hill St. Children ages 2-6 are welcome and should be accompanied by a parent or caregiver. Weekly stories are led by Carol Lampman.

The Mason tennis team captured the Regional Championship last week by beating San Saba in the finals to earn another trip to the State Team Tennis Tournament in San Antonio. This is the first year the tournament has been held in San Antonio and with that came some changes in play format, site locations and the overall atmosphere of the tournament.
On Tuesday, February 26, 2019, Riata’s monthly membership meeting was held at The Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Hostesses were Tony Hurlbut, Mona Lois Schmidt and Nonie Stringer. Delicious desserts were served and enjoyed by all.
The speaker for this month Jess Irwin, President of Mason County Habitat for Humanity (HFH) was introduced.
Acting Boss Lion Michael Murphy opened the March 5 meeting of the Mason Lions Club by welcoming Remedios Silerio as a guest of the club. Galen Thorne arranged the program presented by Tonya Spaeth Ahlschwede, the 452nd District Attorney for Edwards, Kimble, Mason, McCulloch and Menard Counties.
Mrs. Ahlschwede began by reviewing the number of cases filed in each of the five counties in the 452nd District:

There are several different varieties of spring wildflowers beginning to bloom around Mason, and although everyone is anxious to enjoy a great crop of bluebonnets this year it is important to remember that there are other blooms that fill out the whole range of colors in our part of the Hill Country.

The Mason Garden Club will hold its regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, at 2 p.m. in the Stribling Room of the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library. Guestspeaker will be Marlene Gillman, master gardener from Killeen, who will speak on “Wildflower Legends.”

Riata Service Organization is planning a major fundraiser on Saturday, March 30th. The event is to be held at Lea Lou Co-Op on the square and will begin at 6:30. 100% of the proceeds will be donated to help Mason County First Responders (Mason County EMS & Fire Department)
This theme of this year’s event is Sights, Sounds & Taste of Town!
The Mason County Republican Women will hold their bimonthly luncheon on Wednesday, March 20, 2019, at 11:30 am in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Library.
Members and guests will gather at 11:30 am for a meet and greet with the luncheon starting promptly at noon.

I would like to address an invitation to my constituents of (District 2), as some of you may already know, the Mayor, City Administrator, City Commissioners have set up a series of workshops to address some of the issues that needs to be decided and agreed upon. We need to discuss and get a plan of action for the future of Mason.

Weldon Thomas Tucker (“Tuck” or “Pop”) went to be with his Heavenly Father on March 6, 2019. He was the son of Frank and Alvina Tucker and was born on October 17, 1936. He was a native of the Oak Cliff area of Dallas, Texas, where he worked for Dreyfus and Son as a clothier and later became a real estate broker for the firm of Hudson and Hudson in Dallas.
He attended Adamson High School, where he met the love of his life, Pat (Honey) Maples.
Elvie Trudell Zesch Donop of Mason, Texas passed away in her lifelong home on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at the age of 93. She was born November 15, 1925 on the family ranch, near the banks of the Llano river, close to White’s Crossing. She was the second of two children.
Honoring the Volunteers of Mason
On March 5th, the Mason Community Foundation hosted a dinner at the Community Building honoring the volunteers of Mason. Unlike so many of the dinners that we all attend in Mason, it wasn't a fundraiser, it didn't have auction items, and it didn't cost the attendees for their presence.
Even though there were more than 200 people there, it could have been a much larger crowd.
