Washington, D.C. — Wednesday, Congressman Mike Conaway (TX-11) released the following statement:
“Representing the people of the 11th District of Texas has been an honor and privilege that I cannot adequately describe. Over the years, Suzanne and I have been blessed to work with the finest group of public servants. They have served unselfishly in an exemplary manner.

When you have an electric cooperative as your utility provider, you are a member-owner rather than a customer. As a valued member-owner of CTEC, we ask for your participation in our annual membership meeting. This year the CTEC Annual Meeting will be held on Tuesday, August 20th at 7:00 p.m.
The Art Community had a sad week. We mourn the loss of Charlie Ramon. We will miss his smiling face and infectious laugh. Our sympathy to Jordan and the entire family.
The Texas Tax Free Weekend is August 9 – 11. I try to avoid places where masses of parents and frustrated children hang out on those days.

Today Is Based Upon a Very Old Decision....
We make decisions every minute of every day. We have to decide what to wear, what to eat, what time to leave home. It is one of the key elements that define our humanity, making decisions using reasoned thought rather than reacting on an instinctual basis.
Most of the decisions that we make are simple ones that help us navigate through the processes of our day.
Reaching Across
Dear Gerry:
Friday evening we were at Keller’s store having dinner. Mike and Sue Pledger sat across from us and Dennis and Kay Evens came in and joined our table. After Kay said she liked our letter of last week, she said she loves her neighbors, the Pledgers.
Though of a different political persuasion, when Kay and Dennis left after they ate, she gave Sue a kiss on the check as she was saying goodbye and reaffirmed their friendship.
We believe the Evans and the Pled ...
Fresh Candidates
Thanks to Ken and Sherrie Corderos’ letter to the editor, we stand corrected – Commissioner Sue Pledger does NOT plan to run for mayor. We apologize.
Also in response to their letter -- freedom of speech includes the right to question the actions of our elected officials. A letter to the editor is not a whisper campaign of personal slander.
Gerry,
The landfill/transfer station controversy is not just about finding the cheapest possible solution for solid waste disposal.
It is analagous to someone choosing to rent or purchase a home. Why should we "rent" space in someone else's landfill when we own ours?
When someone chooses to purchase a home they don't only consider the pricetag.

R.E.S.P.E.C.T
During the past several days I’ve received more than twenty messages from readers, asking my opinion on the most recent shootings in El Paso and Ohio. Since I hadn’t planned to address the subject, I’ve been answering those messages privately. But then one of my editors asked me to write about the issue, so I will, although I see little point in the exercise.
Signs Unto Us…
The prophet Isaiah really started something when he foretold of signs to indicate the coming of the Christ child.
I know. This is a scriptural reference heard mostly at Christmastime. It is noted, though, that signs were big in biblical times, and remain big now. Today, some signs with their modern-day digital technology, colorful images and crisply-worded messages are indeed inundating.
And rarely do any of them mention His Second Coming….
