The city of Mason Recycle Center will not put out the recycle trailers normally located at Northside Park and Heritage Park this weekend. Due to the shortened week and the expected overflow of recyclables, we ask that you bring your recyclables to us during our regular business hours. We will be opened 7:00 a.m.
It is time to remind everyone of the Patriot Warriors’ Mason County Veterans Hunt. Our meal and hunt kick off will be Friday, January 10, and it will again be held at the Community Building. A sirloin and sausage meal with all the trimmings will be served around 12 noon following the Quilts of Valor presentation.
Any ladies (or men) who wish to bring sides or desserts will be appreciated.
We are expecting fifty or so hunters to be hosted by twenty two area ranchers.
I am ready for Christmas. I decorated outside. I have not brought the tree down from the attic. But, it will get done and I will be ready. At this point in my life, I only want to know when you will come to my house so we can celebrate Christmas.

How To Spot Good Character
During the next couple of weeks, we're all going to be spending lots of time with immediate family, extended family and a wide mix of friends and neighbors. In many cases, these Christmas and New Year gatherings are the only times we'll be around them, and we won't see them again until next year.
Many of our impressions of people, even family members, are based upon isolated incidents and encounters during these gatherings.
Blue Ribbon
Although this note of thanks comes well over a month late, special words are in order for the fine Mason High School students who did an incredible amount of work around town all day on Blue Ribbon Community Service Day, Wednesday, November 6.
On behalf of the Mason Ministerial Alliance, heartfelt thanks are expressed to the 5 students and teacher supervisor who did so much great work at the Mason Food Pantry facility!

Myrtle Geistweidt’s Cinnamon Rolls
Mom was well known for her homemade cinnamon rolls and homemade bread. I remember pretty much every Friday when I would get off the school bus and walk home that wonderful aroma was wafting through the house. One or the other graced every Lutheran covered dish luncheon I can remember.
Santa on the Run…
The youngster, maybe 6-7 years of age, is on one of those “select” league baseball teams that may play four games or more on a single weekend during most months of the year.
Sometimes, they fly commercially to tournaments, but so far, I haven’t heard of any teams chartering planes.
Thank you, Mason Study Club, for hosting a lovely retirement party for Assistant Librarian Nancy Scholibo! Many, many people stopped in to wish her well, and she had a wonderful sendoff! She has been invaluable during her time here, and we will miss her. But all things eventually change, and I’m delighted to announce our two new staffers, Assistant Librarian Cristi Slocum and Library Clerk Sheri Wheeler!
Crackling Corn Bread
courtesy: JD Fulse
Crackling or fried pork skins are used in many different fashion in South Louisiana/Creole food. Most times they’re eaten as snacks, however, I’ve also seen them used as a flavoring for grits and/or corn bread. I’ve used both pork skins and dried onions; either one will work well.
Ingredients:
½ cup hog crackings or pork skins, crushed
2 tablespoons melted butter
½ cup minced green onions
1 ½ cups corn meal
½ cup flour

A Slip of the Tongue
When Pastor Forrest Kreinautlaud came to St. Martin's Lutheran Church in the mid-1980's, he soon discovered that the little Texas country church with its membership of predominately German-American farmers and ranchers was a bit behind its neighboring congregations in the practice of contemporary worship customs.
For example: other Lutheran congregations were involving more and more lay people in the worship.
