Mason’s population is “shifting to the East,” said County Judge Jerry Bearden at Monday’s Commissioners Court meeting. This population shift, especially in precinct two, requires that the County redistrict. The Court will hold a public hearing on Monday, November 15, at 8:30 a.m. in the Stribling Room of the Mason County Library to discuss the required redistricting.
The City of Mason will be returning tens of thousands of dollars in federal funds that had been approved under the American Rescue Plan Act because of conditions attached to the money, according to a city official on Tuesday. “We decided to send it back because it had some stipulations in the contract that we really did not want to follow,” said City Administrator John Palacio.
The Mason High School varsity football team used its potent rushing attack all game on Friday, Nov. 5, during the Punchers’ 52-22 blowout victory at home against the Ozona High School Lions on Senior Night to win the 2A-1 District 14 championship outright.
On the very first play from scrimmage on offense for the Punchers, junior quarterback Ivan Wofford connected with wide-open sophomore tight end Wyatt Row for a big gain that got Mason deep into Lions’ territory.
The Mason High School girls and boys varsity cross country teams concluded a memorable 2021 season on Saturday, Nov. 6, in the UIL Class 2A State Championship meet held at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The Cowgirls varsity squad again did quite well against fierce competition in the 3,200-meter run as Mason had 267 points to place 10th out of 16 schools that qualified a team of at least five or more runners.

Ron Sutton, 77, of Junction passed away peacefully on Nov. 1, 2021, at his beloved lake house at Buchanan Dam.
He was born December 11, 1943, in San Angelo, TX to Leonard and Dimple Sutton who were successful business owners in Junction for many years. Ron was raised in Junction and graduated from Junction High School.
Barbara Jean Rodgers, age 90, passed from this life on Thursday, November 4, 2021.
Barbara was born on March 9, 1931, in Grit, Texas to Thomas and Marguerette (Cuckler) Westbrook.
She had been a resident of McCulloch County since 1993.
Barbara married Carlton Dagen in 1947, and they remained together until his passing in 1993.

Seed saving is a practice as old as humankind. George Washington supposedly thought it was "disreputable" for farmers to buy seeds every year. If you want to save seeds from one year to the next, you need to grow open-pollinated varieties (not hybrids) and know if a plant is self-pollinated or wind or insect-pollinated.
