This week marks one year since Mason County’s historic courthouse was ravaged by fire, allegedly by an act of arson. One year later, the site is being prepared for restoration. Mason Junior High Robotics Won First, Second and Fourth place at the Area 15 Robotics Competition. The top two teams advance on to the state championship in May! Taking first place in robotic inventions- Anna Whitworth, Clancy Osbourn, Kalen Langehennig, and Fisher Bradley. Placing 2nd- Hannah Holbrook, Hannah McFarland and Jaxson Reichenau.
The Mason High School girls and boys varsity basketball team each were victorious at home on Friday, January 28 as the Cowgirls and Punchers both won two hard-fought games over District 29-2A against Goldthwaite High School. February is here and that means that Mason High School varsity baseball for the Punchers officially returns for the 2022 regular season this month. Mason will open up the season at home at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, February 21 vs. Brady High School. The Punchers will also have non-district games at 5:00 p.m.

Daniel Cruz Palacio Sr., "Boome," was born May 3, 1937 to Paulino Sr. and Anestacia Palacio in Menard, Texas. The Palacio family took part in various farming work, harvesting cotton and peanuts. Daniel began his contributions at a young age, helping his family as the oldest son of 12 siblings.
The Big Four Grasses of the Tall Grass Prairie
Two hundred plus years ago there were somewhat fewer woodlands, fewer trees scattered on the savannas, and more grasses in the Hill Country than we see today. Back then the prairies that stretched from Canada to Texas (the southern end of which was in the Hill Country). They supported huge herds of migrating buffalo, as well as grazing elk and antelope.

When the winter cold is getting tedious, I begin my Spring count down. This year, the first day of spring will be March 20th, which is a Sunday. Another practice that helps pass the time is pulling out the Vegetable Garden Planting Guide. We are growing Zone 8a. Many seed packets advise gardeners to plant or transplant once soil reaches a certain temperature.
Mexican-Spiced Venison Flank Steak with Skillet Corn Salsa
You know I am a fan of spicy food and this dish brings together two of my favorite foods, venison flank steak and salsa. I have used round (beef) steak, also. I think you will love the combination, too. I like to serve it with a guacamole citrus salad on the side.

Is there such thing as having too many biscuit recipes? I didn’t think so! This recipe produces one of lightest, flakiest biscuits that you’ve ever drenched in gravy. As a matter of fact, you may want to hold the biscuits down so that they don’t float off your plate. This recipe also makes a BUNCH of biscuits; like 4 dozen, so you can really feed a crowd.
Our household is slowly returning to normal. John came home from the Rehabilitation Hospital on Friday. It is nice not to drive to San Antonio every other day. He is doing well but still has to regain strength. Remember to bring two dozen cookies on February 6 for Teacher Appreciation Day on Monday.

“You can't tell a book by its cover.” As an avid reader, I have long known that to be true. The intriguing summary of contents, the lavish praise of reviewers, the author's other popular writings– all may entice me to read a particular book. However, I often find myself disappointed that what I expected to read and what I actually read were not the same. On the other hand, as an author of five books, I have discovered that you can sell a book by its cover.
The first episode in the Star Wars Made Stephen Spielberg A Billioinaire movie franchise series, called The Phantom Menace, came out in 1999. The second episode, entitled Attack of the Clones, hit theaters in 2002. The third one, Revenge of the Sith, was released in 2005. A New Hope, the fourth in the series, first showed in 1977.
You Had to be There to Hear Charlie!
On January 25, the Mason Lions Club met for their weekly club meeting at Nacho’s. The Lions Club welcomed as its guest Daniel Boatright. The club also welcomed as its guests three graduating seniors from Mason High School. Grady Wallace, whose parents are Jamie and Holly Wallace, has participated in FCCLA, Blue Ribbon Service Day, and many more activities.
