This year CTEC is offering twenty-five $1,000 college scholarships, bringing the combined amount of financial help awarded to area students over the program’s 21-year history to $559,000. Completed scholarship applications must be in the Fredericksburg CTEC office by 5 p.m., Friday, February 23.
In order to be eligible, applicants must attend a recognized Texas institution of higher education in the fall 2018 semester and be considered a full-time student.

A vintage market to be held in Mason! Sweet Pickin’s Vintage Fair is a vintage market that will take place in the event barns of Lea Lou Co-Op located on Mason’s downtown square. The happenings will be Friday March, 2 (5-9pm) and Saturday March, 3 (9am-5pm).
A great group of vendors will coming from all over Texas (and Mason locals, too) to take part in Sweet Pickin’s Vintage Fair.
The Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library presents the of celebrated acoustic duo Hungrytown. Last July, they returned from a successful six-and-a-half-month tour of the US (including Mason), UK and New Zealand, covering over 16,000 miles on American highways alone. They are currently on a four-month tour of the American south and southwest.
Vermonters Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, who make up Hungrytown, have been touring professionally for nearly 15 years.

Richard Nugent will present a program on determining stellar and galactic distances.
Nugent worked for NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston, specializing in image processing and analysis of images from the land remote-sensing satellite (LANDSAT) system.
As part of its fourth annual Red in Fred heart health campaign in February, Hill Country Memorial will offer calcium scoring CT scans for $99 in February.
The calcium scoring CT is a type of x-ray that identifies the presence of calcified plaque in the arteries of the heart. This plaque can indicate coronary artery disease that can lead to a heart attack.
Interested individuals should contact their primary care physician to request an order for this CT scan.
Need extra money for college? Scholarships are available for students who are part of a Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) member-family, County Farm Bureau President Shannon Worrell said.
The deadline for applications is before midnight on March 1.
Several scholarships are available for both high school students and enrolled college students, including one-time scholarships and recurring semester-based assistance.
