Thank you Puncher Football. We have enjoyed a great season with you. While we would have preferred to have a win Friday, just because winning is much more fun than losing, you have nothing to be ashamed of. You played with class and heart all season. Emotions are raw now, but you are all destined to bigger and better things in your future. I was looking at the calendar and noticed that Christmas is really getting close.
Zeros in the News… When my 105-year-old Uncle Mort dropped in the other day, he claimed to be on the verge of “dropping out” of a world he believes is moving too fast. He claims he is weary of much, beginning with all the strings of zeros encountered in the news recently. “Trouble is, zero clusters--with commas fore and aft--are being lobbed at us two and three at a time,” Mort lamented.
I have a Christmas list, but that is as far as it goes. By this time 48 years ago, I would have had all bought and wrapped. But, there’s that rush when you do it later. I love gift bags, never mastered the art of gift wrapping. With the bags you just have to cover them with some tissue paper and it’s a done deal. However, this year is a tad more difficult.
Incomplete pass Last week, amid cheers and tears, the US House of Representatives voted to pass the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017. The bill is now on its way to the US Senate, and unless it was entrusted to the US Postal Service, we can assume it will arrive there, and be voted on sometime in the near future.
We surely enjoyed the fellowship and holiday sing-along last week with singer/songwriter Fletcher Clark! His quick wit added to the fun as he interacted with the audience, and his knowledge of the background of the songs was entertaining, too. I’ve been humming Christmas songs ever since! Mary Carlman’s getting us all in the Christmas spirit, too, with her display of holiday items from Sweden, Germany, and the U.S.
Pride I just read an article in the San Angelo Standard Times about the incredibly generous outpouring your students provided for your rival town, Refugio. It brought tears to my eyes. God bless you each and every one. I was a Kermit football player and spent 36 years as a 12th grade English teacher in Eagle Pass, Wink, and Kermit, and then Wink again.
Reminders of Getting A Bit Older In November, I turned 58 years old. When I was a teenager, I remember thinking of anyone who was older than 50 as being OLD. When I had to deal with people who were older than 70, I felt there was surely a connection to ancient societies from which those individuals surely had stepped forth. But now, 58 years further down the road, my perspective has changed considerably.
Love Mason! “Thank You” for Mason’s 2017 Gifts! Before the year closes, I want to share a few words of “Thank You” through this means: 1.) Our Library – In April, we hosted a catered luncheon following a graveside funeral service for a dear friend. Our beautiful library was perfect for the setting as the majority of the guests were either from out of town or out of state.
The Mind Dear Gerry and Readers, Previously, I gave just a few of the properties of Mind. I suggested Your Eternal Self to understand all the research that has been conducted to fully appreciate all aspects of the power of Mind. The important take-away is that we must not equate brain to Mind.
It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like.... The alerts started popping up on my phone on Monday. At first, it was just San Angelo, Eldorado, Abilene... By mid-afternoon, the alerts had been extended further south and included Junction, Menard, Mason and Brady. By this morning, the warnings had been extended even further south and east and now included most of the Hill County and the Highland Lakes.
