Pedernales Electric Cooperative’s Board of Directors has selected Julie Parsley to lead the nation’s largest and fastest-growing distribution electric cooperative. Parsley is a former partner of Parsley Coffin Renner, a law firm specializing in utility regulations.
“We’re proud to share that Julie Parsley will be joining the PEC family,” Board President Emily Pataki said.
Celebrating its 27th year, the Texas Big Game Awards (TBGA), a partnership of Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Texas Wildlife Association, continues to recognize the contributions landowners, land managers and responsible hunters make to managing and conserving wildlife and habitat on Texas’ private and public lands.
To kick off the 2017-2018 hunting season, the TBGA has re-established the program’s objectives and modified entry requirements.
Johnson City Volunteer Fire Department Chief Roy Burdett reported that brush being burned Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at the Low Ranch off Stubbs Road was put out but additional burn piles were ignited on Thursday, Oct. 26, 2017.
“Thursday at noon they were still lighting piles and weren’t watching the weather forecast,” Chief Burdett said.

The Blanco FFA Chapter recently completed a busy fall judging schedule with teams competing in Land Evaluation, Homesite Evaluation, Plant Identification, and Range and Pasture Judging. Overall, more than 30 FFA members represented Blanco at competitions across central Texas.
The Plant Identification team finished third at the Hill District CDE contest, and ninth place at Area competition.

Last year, author Jayne Hover presented to Blanco Elementary primary teachers how to use nursery rhymes to teach reading and writing. K-2 teachers piloted some of the lessons. The following students had their work published in the book “Text Structures from Nursery Rhymes-Teaching Reading & Writing to Young Children.” Students were in 1st grade teacher Mindy Lay’s class, and 2nd grade teacher Kristen Schultz’s class.
On a chilly Friday night in Blanco, the Panthers hosted the Johnson City Eagles for a district game. Captains for the Panthers were Zach Rogers, Toby Triesch, Peyton Van Dyke and Chail Knoll. The Panthers won the toss and deferred to the second half. Blanco kicked to JC and had a streaking Cade Felps in for the stop.
The Blanco girls varsity cross country team earned a second place finish and a trip to state competition at the Region IV Cross Country meet on Monday, Oct 23, 2017, at Texas A&M Corpus Christi.
At the District 25 meet on Oct 9, 2017, Blanco placed first in team standings, followed by Lago Vista in second.

Congratulations to the Blanco Panther Band! The Blanco High School Band has earned Area Finalist honors for the 2017 season. The Panther Band competed at the Area E Marching Contest this past Saturday in Cuero, Tx. In the Prelims Blanco placed 7th out of 26, advancing to Area Finals. During Area Finals Blanco Placed 9th just a few spots away from being a State Qualifier.
Due to a series of complications, this year's Hill Country Western Showcase has been canceled, according to Dennis Moore, Buggy Barn Museum owner.
The event had been held for the past five years during the first weekend in November.
The family-friendly Showcase featured Wild West acts, western re-enactors, historians and musical performances on the grounds of the Buggy Barn Museum, located at 1915 State Hwy 281.

The Fall Pedernales Watershed Landowners' Gathering will be held from 2-5 p.m., Sunday, Nov 12, 2017.
The event will take place Three Mile Creek Ranch is located at 4686 Schumann Road. This is about five miles from Highway 1623, near Albert.

Hill Country Memorial Hospice announces the upcoming meeting schedule for its Alzheimer’s and Dementia Support Group for anyone affected by those conditions, their families and caregivers. The Support Group will meet on Tues., Nov. 14 from 2-3 p.m. in the second-floor conference room of the Brune Building at 808 Reuben St.
Blanco County area residents who served in the military have three opportunities to be recognized on and around Veterans Day.
The Blanco Independent School District extends an invitation to all veterans to visit each of its three schools on Friday, Nov. 11, 2017.

Patricia Ann Tanner Percival, 84, passed away on October 23, 2017 at her home in Wimberley, Texas. Pat was born March 10, 1933, on the family farm in Katy, Texas. After graduating from Robert E. Lee High School, in Baytown, Texas, she pursued a career in modeling while attending college for Fashion Design.
All who knew Pat were well aware of her sincerity, wisdom, compassion, talent and time for others.
