At the Dec. 12, 2017 meeting of the governing body of Blanco, Mayor Martha Herden issued the following statement notifying residents of a settlement with Stallion Estates regarding water service to Cielo Springs: “The city of Blanco and Stallion Estates, Inc. have amicably resolved the dispute that resulted in litigation between the parties.

Once upon a time there was a young boy who struggled to find the perfect Christmas gift for his father. A mail-order tie from the Sears & Roebuck catalogue just didn’t seem to be the answer. Living on a small farm in the midst of the Great Depression with its shortage of cash made Christmas shopping all the more difficult.

GasBuddy projects the national average gas price this Christmas will be $2.39 per gallon, a 12-cent drop since Thanksgiving, but the priciest Christmas in four years (2013: $3.26), and 11 cents higher than Christmas last year. Nearly 3,300 days have passed since prices on Christmas Day averaged under $2 per gallon, a feat last accomplished in 2008 when the average was $1.63 per gallon.

The Panthers lost to the Boerne Greyhounds 76-48 on Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2017. Eddie Calzoncit led Blanco with 19 points, six rebounds, and two steals. Nick Sampeck sank 18 points and made six rebounds and four assists. James Conklin added five points. Tristan Schlinke contributed three assists and two steals. Tyler LaRue made five rebounds and two blocks. The Panthers played in the Navarro Panther Classic Tournament on Friday, Dec.

On Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, the Lady Panthers defeated the Florence Lady Buffalo, 54-25. Blanco jumped out to a 20-4 first quarter lead and held Florence to seven points in each of the three remaining quarters. Kendall Brock led the Panthers scoring 13 points, including five of five shooting from the free throw line.

Season’s Greetings! The winter break is already here, and I can’t believe the school year is moving so quickly. What a great year it has been so far! In an effort to give our teachers and students the valuable tools they need to pursue academic excellence, our technology department continues to implement a huge technology initiative to update our infrastructure.

The Blanco Bear Den would like to thank Blanco and Johnson City for their support. The Cub Scouts worked very hard collecting food and coats for those in need. All items collected were split between all the scouts. The scouts were then able to pick the charitable organization, family or persons of their choice.

The news yesterday said Christmas day is the day when there are the most heart attack deaths in the whole year. They said it’s stress, combined with alcohol and cold weather that constricts our blood vessels. How ironic is that? Jesus came that we could have life and on his birthday, people are dying from heart attacks. I know many people are sad during this time of year, including me, and I find it very disturbing.

Many folks call Matthew 1 the Forgotten Chapter. Matthew starts with the Patriarch Abraham and goes down to Joseph. Note it does not say Joseph the father of Jesus in verse 16. It reads, “…and Jacob, the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called the Christ.” Here is a long list of names starting with Abraham, on to David and ending with Jesus.
