The Blanco Canoe Race, hosted by the Blanco Boy Scout Troop #497, brought 120 paddlers representing 14 Boy Scout troops from the central Texas region. Troops from Austin, Bastrop, Burnet, Hutto, Marble Falls, Pflugerville, San Marcos and Taylor joined the Blanco troop to camp Friday night, April 27 at Klepac Greenhouses by the Blanco River.
Race heats started promptly at 9 a.m.
4/3 arrested a 24-year-old Blanco man after a month’s long investigation that began with a suicide in December. During the investigation, evidence was obtained that indicated that the suspect had agreed to provide drugs to the victim prior to his death. The autopsy report confirmed that the same type of drug was in the victims bloodstream at the time of his death.
The Blanco County Sheriff’s Office received 352 calls for service from 4/23/2018 through 4/29/2018. The Blanco County Communications Center received the following call types during the seven-day period:

On the morning of Wednesday, April 25, 2018 the board of directors of the Pedernales Soil and Water Conservation District hosted the 34th Annual Soil Stewardship Breakfast.

Blanco County Judge Brett Bray has been honored by the Texas Judicial Academy for going the extra mile to be prepared to handle his duties as county judge.

Abbott urges local officials to apply for Harvey funds
Mayors, county judges and emergency management officials in communities impacted by Hurricane Harvey received letters last week from Gov. Greg Abbott, urging them to take advantage of available funding.
Some $500 million in funds from the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s Hazard Mitigation Grant Program are available now, Abbott said.
On April 30, 2018, the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office in conjunction with the Austin Police Department, and Hays County SWAT executed a search and arrest warrant at 566 Weddle Road in Blanco County. The subject of the warrants, Erik Spalteholz, 47, was taken into custody for possession of child pornography.

Blanco County Emergency Services District No. 2 (BCESD2) met April 26, 2018 with city and county officials and retired ESD No. 2 commissioners to brief them on plans to build a new combined Blanco Volunteer Fire Department (BVFD) and Blanco Emergency Medical Services (EMS) station adjacent to the Blanco Police station on the corner of Blanco Avenue and Jones Road.
The new $2.5 million station will be 14,700 sq ft., with 6,341 sq.

Robert Lee “Bobby” Uecker, 82, passed away Tuesday, April 24, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family. Bobby was born to Joseph Cullen Uecker and Jewel Lee (Cravatt) Uecker on Oct. 3, 1935 on the family ranch between Blanco and Johnson City.
Bobby was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Greta Lou (Whittington) Uecker; and their son, Mark Robert Uecker.

May is the month of graduations and new beginnings. All the study and hard work is coming to a celebratory end. The anticipation of the end of such a long journey can be a precarious time if we are not careful. Finishing well is so important in so many ways.
When I received an email from my brother, Dale, saying that he was considering retirement, he had attached a picture of a corner in his home with a note that read, “After almost 40 years of marriage I have finally arrived. I now have my very own man-corner. I had thoughts of having a man-cave, but those dreams were dashed long ago…”
The photo shows a modest but nice wooden desk and a two-drawer file cabinet: that’s about all—not even a chair.
