The mustang horse is America’s famous wild horse, descended from Colonial Spanish horses, they were first brought over to North America with the arrival of Cortés in Mexico in the year 1519 where the Native American’s soon adopted them into their lifestyle. By 1686 there was a stable Spanish horse population in what is now Texas.
Marlene Holmes, Ben Milam Whiskey Distillery’s master distiller, has an interesting tale on how she entered the whiskey world. “Well it’s a fish story,” said Holmes. The spent grain, which is the leftover malt and adjuncts after the mash has extracted most of the sugars, proteins, and nutrients, was typically given to livestock. Juneteenth Celebration: On Saturday, June 22, residence and guests of Blanco County gathered at Peyton Colony schoolhouse grounds to celebrate. Juneteenth, Emancipation Day in Texas. On June 19, 1865 Union Major General Gordon Granger read General Order #3 to the people of Galveston: “The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free.
CKC Farms, a family-owned Blanco micro dairy, has been producing goat cheese for 15 years that is distributed throughout the state. Founder Chrissy (Omo) Grundy and her brothers Kenny and Connor form the “CKC” is not only the name of the business but in day-to-day operations. As a Blanco High School FFA student, Chrissy (Omo) Grundy raised two meat goats to show in the county Stock Show but says she didn’t realize that Ozzie and Cosmos were being raised for their meat.
