No one had the Monday blues at the Henry House in Blanco earlier this week when residents and staff members who wanted the COVID-19 vaccine were able to receive it, thanks to the county’s EMS service. But the county is experiencing a delay in further shipments of the vaccine that’s very much in-demand.
Residents of the long-term care facility were eager, even anxious, to roll up their sleeves.

Amber Corder, program coordinator, called the Blanco Coalition on Awareness, Prevention, and Treatment of Substance Abuse (CoAPT) meeting to order at 9 a.m. on Jan. 13.
First, she went over the upcoming fundraisers for Project Graduation. One is a Flamingo Flocking Fundraiser which “involves deploying a flock of pink plastic flamingos in someone’s yard or outside a business entrance.
The Blanco City Council meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. Jan. 12 by Mayor Pro Tem Martin Sauceda with all council members present; Matt Lewis attended via Zoom.
Sauceda thanked the Old Blanco County Courthouse for allowing the meeting to be held there and announced there would be no public bathrooms available at the courthouse during the meeting.
The Blanco Panthers had an amazing evening Thursday, Jan. 14 in San Antonio lifting at the Texas Strength Systems gym.
The team finished second and with nine of the 10 athletes placing in their weight class.
Daniel Jaimes led the way, finishing first in the 275 pound class, with his 500 pound squat helping him achieve a total of 1180 pounds.
Jackson Cress finished second, totaling 1095 pounds, and Cole Tharp placed second in his weight class.

The Blanco boys basketball team jumped out to a 2-0 District 25-3A record last week with wins over Ingram and Lago Vista. The Panthers rolled past the Warriors, 85-44, on Jan. 12, and earned a 90-69 win against the Vikings last Friday. Blanco improved to 13-1 overall with the pair of victories.
Against the Warriors, the Panthers built a seven-point lead, 19-12, in the first quarter.
The Blanco Lady Panthers placed themselves in good position in the race for the District 25-3A lead with two wins last week.
Blanco defeated the Ingram Lady Warriors, 55-23, on Jan. 12 and beat the Lago Vista Lady Vikings, 57-40, last Friday. The Lady Panthers are 12-5 overall and 2-1 in district.
Blanco overwhelmed Ingram in the first quarter, blasting out to a 22-4 lead.
Luke Frank Sheppard Jr., 91, passed away Sunday, Jan. 10, 2021 at his home in Blanco. Luke was born Nov. 8, 1929 in Dallas, to Luke Sheppard Sr., and Mildred Mae (Phillips) Sheppard.
Luke was raised in Corpus Christi, where he later graduated from high school. Not long after high school Luke served his country with the U.S.
On the 14th of January 2021, God called upon another one of his Angels. Jesus Juan Estrada “Chilo” of Blanco, was born in Laredo on Dec. 24, 1959.
Chilo excelled in music and was co-drum major and state champion at Laredo Martin High School. After high school Chilo enlisted in the U.S.
