Members of the Blanco High Senior Class planted a bigtooth maple tree in the southwest corner on the grounds at the Old Blanco Courthouse last Saturday to commemorate the achievements of the BHS Class of 2021. The idea was conceived by a group of seniors that wanted to do something meaningful to celebrate their upcoming graduation and to say thanks to the community that supported them through their years in Blanco.
STAAR TESTING RETURNS FOR STUDENTS ACROSS STATE
The STAAR test data the school district receives this summer could prove to be important to making sure that Blanco’s students are on track in their education after a yearlong rollercoaster ride prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic. When the north Blanco ESD (ESD #1) was formed in 1989, the boundaries of the District were “the Johnson City ISD boundaries within Blanco County.” When the south Blanco ESD (ESD #2) was formed in 1999 the boundaries were, “the Blanco ISD boundaries within Blanco County.” A small section of Blanco County off Ranch Road 1623 is in neither school district, but is in the Fredericksburg ISD.
On Tuesday, April 6, a community meeting was held at the Gem of the Hills regarding Municipal Utility Districts. This event was hosted by the Hill Country Alliance (HCA) and Protect Our Blanco (POB). Citizens were invited to attend this free event in person or via Zoom. The thermometer read 92 degrees last week. I think spring is here! I have been seeing hummingbirds and it’s time for purple martin’s so fill your feeders and clean the Martin houses. It’s time to plant spring and summer landscapes. Choose a color scheme, then mass your colors, choose plants that are colorful for the longest time with least effort.
The Blanco High School musical theater department opened its staging of Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” over the weekend. The first three shows were well attended by family and friends of the cast and crew. The public is invited to attend the final three performances, which will be Friday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday, April 18, at 2:30 p.m.; and Sunday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m.

The Blanco softball team sits atop the District 25-3A standings with a 6-0 record after two big wins last week. The Lady Panthers routed Ingram 15-0 April 5 and picked up an 11-4 win against Comfort April 5 to stay unbeaten in district play. Llano is currently in second place in the district with a 3-2 record, followed by Comfort at 3-3.

Special congratulations to April, Hannah, Cynthany, Harley, Buddy, and Bruno for qualifying for the UIL State Solo & Ensemble Contest with their solos.
The Blanco baseball team is 4-0 at the halfway mark in their District 25-3A schedule with a pair of big wins last week. The Panthers took a 12-0 victory against Ingram April 5 and throttled Comfort 12-1 last Friday. Blanco is 16-3 on the season and 4-0 in district play. Lago Vista is 3-1 in district, followed by Llano at 2-2.
