Blanco County could have more money to spend to encourage tourism if a bill in the State House of Representatives clears all the legislative hurdles to eventually become law. Last week, Rep. Erin Zwiener, who represents District 45 in Blanco and Hays counties, presented House Bill 2345 to the House Ways and Means Committee.
Blanco County will be holding its countywide household waste collection event on Saturday, April 24. Bring your recyclables to the county drop-off location, the Blanco County/Waste Connections Transfer Station at 377 Transfer Road in Johnson City. The event is sponsored by Blanco County, Blanco Pedernales Underground Water Conservation District, and Keep Blanco Beautiful.
Blanco County continues to have the lowest unemployment rate in the Rural Capital Area of Central Texas, according to figures released last week by the Texas Workforce Commission. The county’s unemployment rate rose slightly from February to March, from 4.0 to 4.1 percent, according to figures released this month by the TWC.
The Blanco City Council meeting was called to order at 6:01 p.m. April 13 by Mayor Pro Tem Martin Sauceda with all council members present. The governor’s last order removed the mask mandate and removed the ability to enforce mask requirements for cities. Council member Mike Smith moved to extend the mask policy because the county has extended its mandate.
The Blanco County Commissioners Court meeting was called to order at 9:06 a.m. on April 13 by Judge Brett Bray. First, the public hearing on the countywide polling place program took place. Kristen Spies, election administrator, took the floor first. She explained that his will allow citizens to vote at any polling location.
Blanco Coalition Awareness, Prevention, and Treatment of Substance Abuse (CoAPT) will be holding its fourth annual safe and drug-free wellness fair. The fair will take place on April 28 from 4-6 p.m. at the 2nd Mile Rec Center. You may soon receive an appraisal notice from the Blanco County Appraisal District. The appraisal district mailed about 14,500 appraisal notices on 4/16/21. Your city, county, school district and other local taxing units will use the appraisal district’s value to set your 2021 property taxes. Under Texas law, county appraisal districts are required to notify property owners about changes in their property’s value.
Cole Meyer was crowned prom king and Toni Daniels was crowned prom queen at the 2021 Blanco High School Prom Saturday, April 17. The prom was held at the Old Blanco County Courthouse on the square in Blanco. An added bonus for Meyer, it was his birthday and everyone at prom sang Happy Birthday to him.
The final performance of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast will be Sunday, April 25, at 2:30 p.m. in the Blanco High School cafeteria. As the show becomes more excellent with each performance, the participants expect their final presentation will be their best and hope to share their gift of music, dancing and storytelling with as many members of the community as would like to attend.

The Lady Panthers run-ruled the Llano Lady Jackets in five innings, 14-3, Friday, April 16 at the BHS softball field. Blanco improves to 13-9 overall and 7-0 in District 25-3A. Comfort is second at 5-3, Llano is third at 3-4, Lago Vista is fourth at 3-4 and Ingram is in fifth place at 0-7. The Panthers led 6-3 in the fifth inning.
The Panther baseball team fell to the Llano Jackets 10-6 Friday, April 16. Blanco is 16-4 on the season and 4-1 in District 25-3A. Lago Vista is second at 4-1, followed by Llano at 4-2. Comfort is 2-3 and Ingram is 0-5. Against Llano the Panthers scored one run in the second inning and the Jackets scored one in the fourth.
The Blanco FFA Chapter has been very busy this spring judging in Career Development Events both online and all across the state of Texas. “We have put in thousands of miles, lots of hours of practice and a bunch of hard work. But the experience has been great, and we have had some good placings to show for all the effort,” said Travis Kersten, FFA co-advisor.
Billy Hazel Myers Doring Lux was born on July 11, 1926 to William Bell Myers and Hazel Kelley Myers in Buda. She went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on April 12, 2021 in her home in Kendalia. Billy was preceded in death by her first husband Adolphus Doring, her second husband Alfred Peter “Freddie” Lux, her parents William Bell and Hazel Myers, her son Adolph Doring, grandson Troy Cardon Jonas and sister May Myers Kneupper.
