Officials at Blanco Independent School District have been relying on data to make tough decisions during this school year’s coronavirus rollercoaster ride and it will not be any different when it comes to next school year.
“Throughout the school year, we used data to help make our decisions and things seemed to fall into place for us,” said BISD Superintendent Clay Rosenbaum.
The City of Blanco will receive a hefty amount of funds from federal government programs.
The city will receive $430,000 from the American Rescue Plan Act and $85,000 from the Cares Act, said city administrator Will Daves at the May 11 city council meeting.
Daves told members of the council that the city should receive half of the $430,000 American Rescue Plan Act funds “sometime this week.” The other half should be received during the next 12 months, he added.

Earlier this spring semester, BHS senior Mason Groff signed a commitment to play football at Angelo State University. Groff will play interior offensive line, either guard or center, for the Rams. Groff received first team all-district honors for both offensive and defensive line this past fall. He will report to ASU in June for summer camp.
Presley Young, BHS senior, was invited to play in the Texas Association of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game May 13 at Paul Taylor Arena in Northside ISD in San Antonio. Young played on the Aqua team and scored seven points. The Aqua team defeated the Purple team 80-73. Young, right, is pictured with Blanco girls basketball coach Matt Karnes.
The Blanco baseball team’s season came to a close in the area round of the playoffs with a defeat in the best-of-three series to Hallettsville.
The Brahmas took the series 2-1. Hallettsville opened with a 8-6 win Friday in the first game of the series, played at New Braunfels Canyon High School.
Harris Harold “Bubba” Snowden, 67, of Pleasanton, passed away on May 13, 2021, from heart complications. Even though a failing heart took him away from this world, his loving heart left a beacon of light for all those who knew him.

Peter John Foegelle was born on March 11, 1960 to William Victor Foegelle Sr. and Ella Jane (Richard) Foegelle in Laredo. He went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, with his wife at his side on May 11, 2021 in his home in Blanco, after struggling with ALS for seven years.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, William Victor Foegelle Sr.
