Blanco County is in good financial shape, according to its annual audit issued by Neffendorf & Blocker, P.C. of Fredericksburg. The county commissioners were told at Tuesday’s meeting that its audit received an unqualified opinion, which means the firm found that the county’s financial statements are fairly and accurately represented for the fiscal year ending Sept.
Blanco County’s unemployment rate continues to lead the nine-county Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area in numbers released late last week. Blanco County’s unemployment rate fell to 3.6 percent for April and is the only county in the region below 4 percent. The Blanco County unemployment rate was 4.1 percent for March. The state’s unemployment rate for April was 6.3 percent, while it is 5.7 percent nationally.
Blanco Coalition on Awareness, Prevention and Treatment of Substance Abuse (CoAPT) met May 17 to continue work on its grant application. Members of CoAPT broke into groups to review the grant application, and to make edits to the narrative and abstract. The narrative is a 15-page document that tells how and why Blanco CoAPT was founded, and gives details on the organization’s activities since its founding. The Rotary Club of Blanco County is proud to present the Joe Garcia Memorial Golf Tournament on June at Vaaler Creek Golf Club, 228 Jeff Vaughn in Blanco. Tee-time is at noon. There will be a silent auction in conjunction with the fundraising tournament. At the silent auction, there’s much to choose from in the way of gift certificates, gift baskets, clothing, and famous local artist renderings, prints and paintings.
The end of the school year is a super busy time for teachers, students and parents. There are classroom parties, final exams, award ceremonies, and graduation celebrations. This is an exciting time for the Blanco High School Seniors whose adult lives are just beginning. High school graduation is a significant milestone for seniors as well as their parents.

The middle school district tennis tournament was held Saturday, May 8 at the Ingram High School tennis courts. George Stanley Weik, known to us as Stan, was born Oct. 10, 1949 in San Antonio, Texas. Stan left this world to go home to our Lord on May 14, 2021. Throughout his years, he lived in many areas of Texas, but he called San Saba home where he served as city manager since December 2007. Stan brought many God-given talents and years of experience to San Saba and felt privileged to have the opportunity to put these skills to use in this beautiful town.
