COVID-19 cases are creeping back up in Central Texas, including Blanco County, according to data from the state. Blanco County has 648 confirmed COVID-19 cases and 21 reported fatalities, according to the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. There are 11 estimated active cases as of Monday. Texas conservation guru J. David Bamberger is coming to Marble Falls Sunday, Aug. 1, from 3-6 p.m. for a book signing event hosted by Museo Benini. Blanco could soon have an interim city administrator. Councilors voted to enter into negotiations to name Kelly Kuenstler interim city administrator at a lengthy July 13 meeting. She has served as a consultant to the city since this summer. Kuentsler opened her consultancy firm, City Hall Essentials, in January of this year.
Unemployment rates are up throughout the region, including in Blanco County. Blanco County unemployment rose from 3.4 percent in May to 4.1 percent in June according to figures released by the Texas Workforce Commission. Even though the county’s unemployment rate went up 0.7 percent, it still leads the nine-county Rural Capital Area of Central Texas region. The unemployment rate in the region rose from 4.3 percent in May to 4.9 percent in June.

Carol Kay Granberg, age 86, passed away peacefully Monday, July 12, 2021 in Fredericksburg. A long time resident of both San Antonio and Blanco, she was born December 8, 1934 in San Antonio to Woodie H. (Sr.) and Marguerite Alexander. Carol was predeceased by her loving husband of 63 years, Gary Michael Granberg. She is survived by her son Bruce Michael Granberg. In connection with Carol’s wishes, private interment will take place on a date and time to be determined.
Dolores Hendrix Steffens Bevers of Blanco passed away in Fredericksburg on Sunday, July 18, 2021. Dolores was born Aug. 4, 1932 in Houston, to Mervin Brisco Hendrix and Mildred Pauline (Wamsley) Hendrix. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Ray Steffens.
