The meeting was called to order by President Ann Hall at 6:27 pm. The commissioners that were present were Ann Hall, Mike Rieken, Lynne McKirdy, and Becky Greathouse. Carl Struck was not present at this meeting. Rachel Lumpee was introduced as the new Blanco County News reporter as she will be covering the ESD meetings. Consent Agenda The consent agenda was the next item of discussion.
On July 2, 2018 the Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 2 broke ground for its new facility located at the corner of Blanco Ave. and Jones Rd. Right now, construction is at the excavation and dirt-working stage. The excavation stage in construction is defined as the process of moving earth, rock or other materials with tools or equipment.
Blanco Police officers responded to support the County Sheriff’s Office on a call in Monday, July 16, 2018, reporting that a convicted felon allegedly possessed narcotics, weapons and a potential explosive device. Officers arrived at the scene in the Lake of the Hills subdivision south of Blanco. BPD officers noted two vehicles leaving the area, including the suspect, and made a traffic stop on both vehicles on U.S.
The Blanco City Council meeting was called to order Tuesday July 10, 2018 by Mayor Martha Herden. After roll call Mayor Herden asked for any public comments. Jan Roe, the public relations director of the Kologik Company, spoke on her company buying part of the COPSync technology as the company filed bankruptcy in September 2017. “I am here to address your concerns about the bankruptcy of COPSync and the viability of the COPSync technology,” Roe said.

On May 1, 1718 the Alamo was founded as a mission named San Antonio de Valero. Days later, San Antonio de Bejar, a presidio, was established to protect the new mission, according to the Texas State Historical Association, in a new publication celebrating San Antonio’s “300 Years of History.” In her 300-year history, the city has endured tremendous loss and great victories, always moving forward to become the great city she is today.
As a result of new tariffs imposed specifically on newsprint, the cost of newsprint has increased significantly. Our printers are passing along these costs to the paper, and we must ask the readership to share in the costs. As a result, effective Aug. 15, 2018, the price of a single copy of the paper will increase to $1 from $0.75. The last time the cost of a single copy of the Blanco County News was raised was in 2006, when the price went from $0.50 to the current rate of $0.75.
Governor Welcomes Establishment of Futures Command in Austin The U.S. Army on July 12 announced its new Futures Command would be headquartered in Austin, “to better partner with academia, industry and innovators in the private sector, while providing a good and affordable quality of life for Futures Command personnel.” “This sweeping reorganization of the Army’s military efforts adds to the historic connection between Texas and the U.S.
