With rain looming, the Blanco Panther varsity football team hosted the St. Michael’s Crusaders from Austin on Friday, Sept. 7. Cade Felps got things started with a 21-yard run and touchdown score. The point after the touchdown was no good, for a score of 6-0, Blanco. The Crusaders punted the ball and Blanco fair-caught.
The Lady Panther volleyball team opened District 25-3A play with a 3-0 sweep over the Manor New Tech Titans on Friday, Sept. 7. Set scores were 25-3, 25-3, and 25-6. Kenzie Warner led the team with seven kills and two blocks. Hanna Srackangast and Ashlee LaRue each hit six kills.
At the School Board Meeting on Monday, Sept. 10, the Blanco High School’s Arts, Audio/Visual Technology, and Communication (AAVTC) program (career cluster) received a $5,000 grant from the Blanco Satellite Rotary Club, in partnership with the Blanco Education Foundation (BEF). The Education Foundation identified the need after coordinating with Amanda Wier, AAVTC teacher, and forwarded key information to the Rotary Club which, in turn, obtained funds for the program. The Blanco junior varsity football team hosted the Vikings from Lago Vista Thursday night, August 30, at Blanco Stadium. Gavin Young, Jackson Cress, Julian Pesina, and Waylon Hall met the Lago Vista captains at midfield for the coin toss. Lago won the toss and deferred to the second half. After the kick-off, the Panthers started from their 34-yard line with Jacob Gallas taking the handoff for a few yards.

The Panther varsity football team traveled northeast to Lago Vista Friday night, August 31, for the first game of the 2018 season. The captains for the Blanco Panthers were Tristan Fortner, Cade Felps, Chance Horton, and Matthew Alcala. The Panthers won the coin toss and deferred to the second half, leaving the kick-off up to Jesus Artega, who booted one down the middle.

The Blanco Middle School volleyball teams began their 2018 season with home games against the Florence Buffalo. The 7th grade B team and the 8th grade B team won their games 2-1. The 7th grade A team won in a 2-0 sweep. The 8th grade A team lost 2-1. The middle school teams play Lago Vista at home on Thursday, September 6.

The Lady Panthers split games this past week, falling to the Bandera Bulldogs on Tuesday, August 28, and defeating the Canyon Lake Lady Hawks on Friday, August 31. Against Bandera the match went to five games with the Bulldogs winning 3-2 with set scores 27-29, 26-24, 25-15, 21-25, and 15-11. Carly Haack smacked 17 kills and one service ace to lead the Panthers.

Welcome to another school year! I hope your summer was relaxing, and you were able to spend time with family and friends. I am excited to be back for a second year and to continue working with such a great team of educators as we continue to focus on our own professional growth as well as the social and academic growth of our students. Blanco Elementary Kindergartners conduct a science experiment to learn the importance of hand washing. In 1847 an obstetrician by the name of Semmelweiss from Hungry noticed that hand washing greatly reduced infections in newborn babies. Dr. Semmelweiss attempted to promote handwashing amongst his colleagues but they were so offended they actually committed him to an insane asylum.
