The Regular Meeting of the Johnson City ISD School Board referenced a number of important items, including: installing new trustees, election of officers, consideration of 2018-2019 Student Code of Conduct and JCISD Student Handbook, and discussion of the 2018-2019 JCISD Budget. Board Trustee and Positions After Board President Shelly Wenmohs called the Regular Meeting to order the minutes of the previous meeting and routine reports were approved.
The Johnson City Woman’s Civic Club and the Johnson City Library have had a vibrant relationship since 1942 when the club voted to make the library their permanent club project. The club continues yearly to honor this commitment by raising money through fund raisers and membership. This year the club was proud to make a $14,500 donation to the library thanks to the support of the community.
Low water crossings were flooded and closed early Monday morning due to an overnight downpour that brought two inches of rain to Round Mountain in just a few hours. Market for Plastic Recyclables Declines
As of July 1, 2018 Blanco County Recycling will be forced to discontinue taking numbered 3 to 7 plastic containers and all other large plastic items that are illegally dumped at the county Recycle Center. The reason the center can no longer accept this type plastic is because the market has declined to the point that there is no value for this type of plastic and it will not be recycled.
The city park on Nugent Ave. is ready for summer with the pool open for the season along with freshly painted pickleball courts and new playground equipment. “We were swamped Friday,” said Kristi Monkhouse, Johnson City Pool Manager about the pool’s opening day, Friday June 1. In the years she’s been Pool Manager for Johnson City, she’s noticed the pool stays busy through the month of June and slowing down in July and August when temperatures start to hit their peak.
As we head into the heat of summer, we can take comfort in the knowledge that all those hot, sunny days also bring forth everyone’s favorite summer vegetable – homegrown tomatoes! Whether tossed in a salad, sliced on a bun, or eaten on their own, tomatoes are nature’s reward for surviving the heat of June and July. The Dripping Springs Farmers Market celebrates this year’s bumper crop of tomatoes on June 20th and 27th with Tomato Time!
June 2018 will kick off the summer pool season here at Lyndon B. Johnson State Park and Historic Site. Our June hours of operation will be 12pm-8pm on Wednesdays through Sunday. Mondays and Tuesdays the pool will be closed all day. Our 2018 fees are as follows: Adults $3.00 and Children under the age of 13 $2.00.
Colonel (USA, Retired) John W. Stone has been an independent government relations consultant since his retirement from the United States Army in 2007. He will be speaking on June 14th at the Flag Day in Memorial Park. Commissioned in 1978, most of his thirty-year career was as an Active Guard Reserve (AGR) officer, half in Armor and Infantry units and half in higher level staffs.

Theresa Friesenhahn of Salem Insurance in Marble Falls Tx was named the 2018 Texas Customer Service Representative (CSR) of the Year. The award was presented on May 19, 2018 at a ceremony in Arlington, Tx by the Texas Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA). The PIA Texas CSR of the Year award is given annually to an outstanding customer service representative who works for a PIA member insurance agency.

The Johnson City Young Life group is raising money to send High School students to Young Life camp at Crooked Creek, Colorado. Saturday, June 9th there will be a car wash at Lowe’s Market in Johnson City from 11 – 2. Donations will be accepted. Hope to see you there.
As a school administrator and as a parent I have seen many a young person balk when expected to follow certain rules and regulations. And it isn’t just youth, however, who get upset with having to follow rules. I recently traveled on Southwest Airlines. When you’re in a hurry, having to go through all the security rigmarole at the airport can be a real pain in the neck.
