My husband, Peter, and I miss having a dog. I see a lot of dogs on the trail during my daily hike, and so Peter (who is always full of good ideas—usually about things I should do) suggested I carry dog treats.
Dog treats have changed my life.
When I see a dog approaching me on the trail, I say, “Can I give your dog a treat?” Now and then someone will say, “No, she doesn’t need one.” These dogs look to me like they might have a different opinion.
But most dog owners are delig ...
Should we wear masks? I've heard the conspiracy theories and know the "effectiveness" arguments, too. What's a Christian to do? I wasn’t in in the habit of mask-wearing until I went to Austin and everyone was wearing one but me. I did not want to be perceived as a rebel, or selfish.
On June 24, 2020, I read in your newspaper Ed Sterling’s Capitol Highlights with the subheading, “Governor, education commissioner says schools will open in fall.”
Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath said, “It will be safe for Texas public school students, teachers and staff to return to school campuses for in-person instruction this fall, but there will also be flexibility in families with health concerns so that their children can be educated remotely, if the parent so choo ...
The resignation of another Election Administrator should concern all Blanco County voters. Throughout Blanco County history elections have been administered by our County Clerk and our Tax Assessor/Collector. Then, in 2019 Blanco County was charged with illegally purging the voter rolls. A US District Court stepped in to force the county to reverse their action and return those affected to the voter roles.
In May 2019 the Blanco County Election Commission decided to hire its first ever Elec ...
Government budget planning for 2021 is starting up across America. Blanco County will begin the cycle this month. With the COVID-19 impacts revenues will be distorted across Texas and planned spending will reflect change as a result.
The June 15 Texas Tribune points out that "Sales taxes are collected by the state, which then distributes the local share of the money to the cities where the sales were made.
Every Mother’s Day, I have a terrible time finding a card that remotely reflects the relationship I have with my mother.
My mom is in her eighties now and we have always had a good relationship, free of drama and never short of love. My mother has always been a wonderful role model.
Every model projection given by “experts” in the academic and medical fields concerning the death rate of the coronavirus have been proved wrong so far.
With Texas opening up there will indeed be a spike in coronavirus cases. The lockdown was not meant to eradicate the virus, but to flatten the curve so that hospitals would not be overwhelmed.
Yes, people will get sick and some may, God forbid, die.
The ravens are back.
Last year they had a nest right on my hiking trail but I didn’t notice them making it. I didn’t notice when they started guarding it or when the female laid eggs. I didn’t notice a thing. I never saw the nest—which is almost five feet across—and I’m not feeling too stupid about that because the nest is more than 100 feet in the air.
I appreciate receiving the ‘ad’ placed in the Johnson City Record Courier by F.C. Chance on April 15th. The author lamented a negative bias toward our president by news and social media outlets, and although correctly acknowledging that both major political parties “are responsible for the state of our union today,” this author clearly does not believe our President should be implicated as cause for enhancing the epidemic.
Dear Editor,
Online church isn’t real church, but for the time being, it’s the best pastors can do in Johnson City.
I am bummed and happy at the same time. Bummed because I can’t see my Christian family up close and personal, to shake hands and give holy hugs. I’m happy because technology makes a virtual experience possible.
