What's going on at the county government? We are three weeks out from the primary election yet we have no Elections Administrator. We had one, Oscar Villarreal, selected last year by the Commissioner's Court. Mr. Villarreal did assume duties, he perfected a voter's information website, he canvassed the votes of the Nov.
The Postscript
My sister learned to whistle at age two. She was precocious in other ways as well. She knew how to read by the time she started kindergarten. She demonstrated a physical dexterity I never did. She was much more talented at the piano. But it was the whistling that really got to me. I was six when she started to whistle and I remember it clearly.
If anyone was hoping for a calmer more peaceful decade, then surely by now they are disappointed. With just a few days into 2020, the major news story already is a drone strike and death of Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Instantly political sides were drawn as Trump supporters praised the president’s actions as a strike against terrorism and protection for American lives.

Okay, so the family is coming over in four hours expecting a gourmet holiday meal, the house is a mess and you are still in your pajamas. Blanco County Commissioners have forgotten that they work for the people. Under Judge Bray's court, they have professed openness in managing the county business. Evidence tells another story! During months of secret negotiations with Kinder Morgan over the gas pipeline, they refused to hold hearings requested by the public. Then they announced poorly written agreements on Friday afternoon of a holiday weekend.
This may be the start of a new column that will run in the Record Courier from time to time, thanks to an idea from our sister paper, The Llano News. If you know of “A Random Act of Kindness” that you or someone else did, email it to [email protected] and it might just appear in an issue of the paper.
Letter to the Editor:
Last week I wrote about the apparent lack of concern that the Blanco County Commissioners Court showed regarding public safety. They took the word of a deep pocket corporate giant over the advice of constituents. When Kinder Morgan’s lies were revealed, the commissioners refused to consider written documents exposing the lies.
LETTER TO THE EDITOR:
Dear Editor and Readers, I am writing to correct my remarks at the November City Council meeting, published in today’s edition. In my memory, the City was only delinquent for two years of audited annual financial reports. (That was the case at the last time I wrote the Record Courier announcing a bid to improve governance in our city.) So, laboring under the delusion that we were only two years delinquent in financial reporting, last week I stated that I had seen an AFR for 2015-2016.
