Since flu season started in October 2017, over three-thousand Texans are reported to have tested positive for influenza according to the Texas Department of State Health services. A high rate that is expected to increase as we get closer to peak flu season.

Operation Brown Santa is in its sixth year of providing donated toys to Blanco County parents.
PEC volunteer Franciela Marin-Smith was on hand to help wrap presents selected by parents for area children.
“I will say it was a success as we were able to serve many families from Blanco and Johnson City areas,” Marin-Smith said.
Seven wreaths are placed at the base of the flagpole at the Historic Blanco Cemetery as part of the Wreaths Across America program, honoring veterans for their service and sacrifice at a graveside ceremony held Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017.
The seven wreaths represent the six U.S. branches of its military: Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marines, Merchant Marines, Navy plus POW/MIAs.

Johnson City Library’s Discovery Academy is a popular and educationally enriching after-school program for children in grades 3-5. The fall 2017 session, just completed, featured an exploration of Astronomy, specifically our universe and solar system. The group focused on our moon and on the planet Mars. Another area of study was NASA, the space shuttle and the international space station.

The Blanco County Community Choir added to the Christmas spirit by giving their 42nd annual program in Johnson City and Blanco. The concert is always well received and this year was no exception. Large and appreciative audiences enjoyed a variety of new and old Christmas songs.
The all-volunteer choir is made of singers of all ages from Blanco County and beyond.
