After erecting a circa 1850 Wisconsin barn on his ranch, Jim Cauthen decided one barn wasn’t nearly enough to satisfy his love for reclaimed wood. He soon talked his life-long friend, Gary Lamb, into partnering on a business venture that would later become Historic Building Materials.

On Tuesday October 17 at 6:00 pm, David and Susan Hamm will present the Third Tuesday program at the Johnson City Library. In August Susan and David traveled to Wyoming to view the total eclipse. Their presentation will include what that was like, the science of eclipses, but also the awesome task that states go through to get ready for thousands of eclipse visitors.

The Cardiac Support Group will meet on Thurs., Oct. 5 from noon to 1 p.m. in the HCM Learning Center.
Johnson City’s support for Hurricane Harvey survivors continues, with deliveries of relief supplies and preparations for work teams to go help rebuild.
“We’ve established contact with distribution centers in the hurricane area, and plan to keep delivering loads of needed supplies to them as long as the folks in Johnson City keep helping us fill the loads,” said Pastor Lee Romero of the First United Methodist Church.

In September Hill Country Memorial began hosting a free Quit Smoking Support Group on Wednesdays from 12-1 p.m. at the HCM Wellness Center (1006 S. State Hwy. 16).
The support group is for people who want to quit smoking and for those who have already quit and want to continue a smoke-free lifestyle.
“If you want to quit smoking, make the commitment to yourself,” said Dawn Sparrow, HCM Smoking Cessation Program Coordinator.
The Hill Country Memorial Wellness Center now offers weekly Turbo Kick classes that combine elements of cardio-kickboxing and body-sculpting dance moves.
“Of all the classes I teach, I burn the most calories teaching Turbo Kick,” said group fitness instructor Christine McCown. “Between the fun music and learning combinations, you don’t fully realize how hard you are working.”
McCown, a certified Turbo Kick instructor, will teach the class on Wednesdays from 11:15 a.m.
