Marilyn Hale, right, former Llano County Extension Agent, was recently awarded the Silver Clover Award in San Angelo for her service, time and effort in helping the 4-H Club in Llano County. Thirty leaders in the district were chosen through a competitive process to receive the Silver Clover recognition. The recognition includes a steak meal and awards presentation to present the coveted custom-made Silver 4-H Clover.
For the second time this year, Diane Wetz has brought her Heart of The Hills Barrel Racing Association to the John L Kuykendall Arena just west of Llano. Filling up the trailer stalls, and most of the horse stalls, this is an event that makes money for the arena and town.
Things have gotten easier for those wishing to research historical events in Llano County.
The Tocker Foundation awarded the Llano Library a $22,000 grant for the digitization of newspaper archives, and that process is largely complete. They will be available at no cost online at The Portal to Texas History, located at texashistory.unt.edu.

The Llano County Commissioners proposed to keep the effective tax rate level at Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting.
They proposed a total rate of 0.30459 for fiscal year 2017, a slight decrease from the 0.31620 rate set a year ago. However, the rate will raise an additional $132,751 from last year due to increased property values.
A dispatcher for the Llano County Sheriff’s Office turned herself in last week after being wanted on a felony warrant.
Kathy Osbourn, 62, of Llano, was booked into Llano County Jail on Saturday after turning herself into authorities on a felony warrant for hindering apprehension or prosecution of a known felon, which is a third degree felony.
Llano Recycling Opportunity seeks funds for a new baler, and may have to reduce hours if it is not able to be purchased.
The equipment would replace a broken baler which cannot be repaired. The baler was a 20-year old piece of equipment. The cost for a new baler is $15,000.
If the non-profit LRO is unable to purchase a new baler soon, it could be forced to reduce its hours of operation.
The Llano County Commissioners proposed a $14.7 million budget on Monday that is up by about $600,000 from the previous year.
The budget will officially be set after a public hearing at the Sept. 12 commissioners court meeting. The commissioners proposed a 0.34059 tax rate for the fiscal year, which is a slight decrease from the previous year.
The $14.7 million budget includes projected revenues of almost $13.5 million, while $1.2 million of the budget will be covered by reserve funds.

Filming began Monday morning at the Llano County Courthouse for the television pilot, Freedom on Trial. Filming will occur throughout the week at various locations in Llano. In the scene above, protesters picket a trial outside the courthouse. Emergent Order, a film company from Austin, is filming the pilot.

The runners are familiar, but the coach is new. Well, not exactly brand new. Lauren Timms is the head coach of Llano High’s cross country teams, but she was an assistant in the athletic department last year, and has another notable tie: Lauren Parker was in the LHS Class of 2009 and was on the CC team that finished second in state in ’08.
“Apprehensive at the beginning,” Timms told me.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 13 at First Baptist Church with Dr. Van Christian officiating. Burial will follow at 3 p.m. Saturday at Llano Cemetery in Llano.

Douglas Leroy Connely passed away Monday, August 8, 2016 in Tow, Texas at the age of 74. He was born November 23, 1941 in Miami, Oklahoma to Laura Elaine (Herring) and Leroy Connely. He was in the U.S. Navy and served in the Vietnam War. Donald lived in Llano, Texas for 47 years.

Harold (Butch) Lee Williams passed away Tuesday, August 2, 2016 in Llano, Texas at the age of 65. He was born August 3, 1950 in Hollywood, California to Lillian Marie (Turban) and Everett Williams.
He graduated from Benton Jr. Sr. High School in Pennsylvania. He got his Bachelors Degree in Computer Engineering from University of Delaware and worked at Dupont for 34 years.
Rev. Kit Tomlinson has accepted the position of youth pastor at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church in Llano. He began his duties Aug. 1.
Tomlinson served as the pastor of recreational evangelism at University UMC San Antonio for the past eight and one half. His primary ministry has been to the skateboarding community of San Antonio through UISK8.
Previous to that appointment, he served in youth ministry in local churches since 1998.
