Canned goods from the Llano Foodie Market were distributed to the Llano Food Pantry on Friday, March 3. On Feb. 25, the Llano Foodie Market was held at the John L Kuykendall Event Center. Admission was $3 or two canned goods. Donations filled two carts at the Llano Food Pantry that will be distributed to local families and senior citizens.
Restaurants and parking lots were full last weekend. Out of town visitors with horse trailers in tow were looking for the perfect spot to eat while in town for the Hill Country Ranch Sorting being held at the John L Kuykendall Arena.
Competitors from across the Hill Country drove in on Friday night and Saturday morning for the team competition, pitting riders against the clock, and bringing sales tax dollars to Llano.
The morning gets started, like all rodeo events, with a prayer and the Nation ...
Representatives of the Llano Alliance for Drug Intervention toured area Boys and Girls Clubs of America facilities last week in an effort to learn more about the organization with its potential move to Llano County.
The group toured the BGCA in both Marble Falls and Burnet. Sarah Smith, LADI president, was impressed with what she learned.
Llano County is officially debt free. The county paid its last payment early this year on $1 million taken out in 2010 to purchase the East Annex building from the Lower Colorado River Authority and buy some miscellaneous equipment, said county judge Mary Cunningham.
“Now we have no debt on our books,” she said.
Cunningham, who was not county judge at the time the funds were taken out, said the county has made it a point not to go into debt.
“Every now and then there is not alternati ...
The Llano City Council handled mostly routine business in a short meeting Monday night. The council voted 3-2 to approve construction of a building to store equipment for the water and wastewater departments. The council put a cap on the expenditure at $50,000. Councilors Gail Lang and Glen Conner voted against the measure.
Since 2014, the city has spent $600 per month plus paid for electricity to lease space to house its Vac-Con combination truck and jet trailer.
One man’s trash is another woman’s yurt
LEAF (Llano Earth Art Festival) is widely known as the rock stacking championship of the world, but for many who attend, it is so much more. Along with rock stacking opportunities, attendees can enjoy live music, dancing, and participate in workshops from permaculture to yurt building at the March 10-13 event at Grenwelge Park.
A yurt is a ergodynamic structure built on a wooden frame.
50% of the road to a thousand translates to 100% of the Milestone Coaching Award from the UIL. The governing body of everything but recess in Texas high school extra-curricular activities honored Llano High girls’ basketball head coach, Jerry McSherry, for his 506 wins in a 25-year career.
2016-’17 was his first as a Jacket, and he got his 500th win with Llano.
A Saturday rain could not dampen the spirit of the Llano High baseball team. Not an A+ lead, but I’m having nightmares that the presidential campaign has begun its second year. Third?
The Jackets went 3-0 in the Hill Country Classic, allowing just two runs, and Game 4 on March 4 was rained out.
“We needed this weekend,” said head coach Stephen Campbell.
BURNET — Ray “I never met a throw I liked” Dixon and Avery “Tree-top” Tudyk made it two appearances of double-gold victories — in eight days — at the Bulldog Relays, March 2. And pole vaulter Shane Flint came of age, not flying higher than a disc, but maybe soaring above Tudyk.
“Not bad,” head coach Craig Slaughter said of the boys’ third-place team finish.
JOHNSON CITY — It was the ideal time for a game — 8:00 AM. It was the Lady Eagles’ tournament, and Llano met Burnet to open play on March 3. That’s because no other game’s first pitch occurred at 6:00 AM.
“We want to flip the script,” said head coach Bobby Williams — “beat people who beat us last year.” Might as well start with the Bulldogs.
LITTLE RIVER ACADEMY — Llano High sophomore Courtney Reina, with about as much experience in lifting weights in competition as La La Land had in holding an Oscarr, finished second, March 2, at Powerlifting’s Region 2 Meet in the 220 division. This qualifies her for the State Championships, March 17 in Waco.
“Great accomplishment for her and Llano,” said head coach Clint Easley.
Courtney Reina (L) and Emily Ozanne had super performances at the Region Powerlifting Meet. Reina was second in her class; Emily was fourth in hers. The full story is in the sports section.

Spring/Summer 2017 Hill Country Bridal
It’s rare these days to hear of a couple that has been married for seven decades. It’s rarer still to find such a couple still as deeply in love as Olvis and Verna Osborn, married on Dec. 20, 1946 in Llano.
It’s not uncommon to see Verna, now 85 years old, reach for her husband’s hand and give it a squeeze or for Olvis, now 95, to coo words of adoration to the wife who rarely leaves his side.
