Hazmat Crew at the Scene
On Sunday afternoon, July 7, an 18-wheeler was traveling west on State Highway 71. As it was going down the hill approaching “Lottie Roberts” corner (aka County Road 306), it left the roadway and turned over. Special Operation teams from Cedar Park and Round Rock were called in and they identified the substance as ID-2922/Corrosive that is used for cleaning equipment.

The Llano Country Opry will be staged on Saturday, July 13, at the Lantex Theater in Llano. Lieutenant Governor Names Members to Redistricting Panel Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick on June 28 released the names of his appointees to the Texas Legislature’s 2021 Redistricting Committee. Patrick, who presides over the 31-member state Senate, named Sen. Joan Huffman, R-Houston, as chair of the committee, and Sen. Juan “Chuy” Hinojosa, D-McAllen, as vice chair.

On Friday we are welcoming two new businesses to Llano and to the Llano Chamber of Commerce. At 5:30 p.m., we will hold a ribbon cutting and open house with Robinson’s Vintage & Custom Woodworks, located at 301 Bessemer Ave., just north of the bridge. They specialize in MCM, art deco, and antiques ranging between the 1920s-1970s era.
The Llano Lions Club is currently registering Sporting Clays shooters to participate in their inaugural “Sporting Clays for a Cause, Presented by Arrowhead Bank” to be held Saturday, August 17. This event will be the major fundraiser for the club in 2019 and net proceeds from the event will support the club’s scholarship program (“The Cause”). The event will be held on the beautiful and historic Inks Ranch, one of the most scenic and historic ranches in Texas.
Clyde Mordica III passed away Wednesday, July 3, 2019 in Pleasanton, Texas at the age of 70. He was born July 5, 1948 in Fredericksburg, Texas to Clyde Earl Mordica Jr. and Louise (Leifeste). Clyde was a resident of Pleasanton, Texas for one and a half years, since coming from Buchanan Dam and Austin, he was a member of the Cowboy Fellowship in Jourdanton, Texas, and was also an avid hunter and fisherman. Harold Preston of Llano passed away on Sunday July 7, 2019 at the age of 83. He was born on December 6, 1935 in Hays County TX to Alvin and Selma Keese Schneider. Harold served his country in the Army. On December 28, 1958 he married Elna Kuhlmann in Fredericksburg TX. Jean Louise Bode, a resident of Llano, TX since 1951, passed away July 3, 2019 in Kingsland at the age of 95. She was born on October 1, 1923 to Otis Charles Livengood, and Lydia Vivian Sadler Livengood in Walensburg, CO. Her adolescent years were spent in Santa Fe, NM. Jean held various jobs in her life including a secretarial position at Farm Bureau, but her primary occupation was that of a loving wife and mother to her three daughters and six grandchildren.
Millie Faye, born July 20, 1922, went to be with the Lord peacefully and surrounded by loved ones in her home Friday, July 5, 2019 at 2:44 a.m. Millie is survived by her granddaughter Starla Hicks and fiancé Jared Dishman, their children Kaleigh and Garrett Hicks and Noah Dishman. Troy Dean Boultinghouse of Cherokee Texas passed away Friday, July 5, 2019 at the age of 56. He was born July 26, 1962 to Shirley (Capps) and Jesse Boultinghouse. He is survived by his sons Zachary and Theron of Llano, Texas; Sister Traci Highsmith and husband Trey of Schertz and Brother Chad Boultinghouse of Schertz.
Norbert “Bert” Lee Winkler, 87, Of Kingsland, Texas passed away on July 5, 2019. He was born to Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Kainer) Winkler on April 11, 1932 in High Hill, Texas. Mr. Winkler played football and was a competitive tennis player in high school. He proudly served his country in the Unites States Army and played competitive tennis where he partnered and competed with men of all ranks.
I got sucker-punched recently. I was watching some game on ESPN, I guess, because I got confused and thought the History Channel’s three-hour documentary on the 1920 presidential election was on, but it was not till the next night. Anyway, I noticed on the quite popular bottom line on Ess-pin that Texas and Texas A&M were playing each other in December!

Lake Stocking In mid-May about a dozen LBCC members fought with a cold north wind to place a million hybrid striped bass fry into our Lake Buchanan. The project was funded by a Llano County Hotel Occupancy Tax Grant in the amount of $5,461. We thank the Llano County Commissioners for their continued support of our efforts. Hill Country Cats has announced a recent $3,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its trap/neuter/return mission in Burnet and Llano counties. The Petco Foundation investment will enable Hill Country Cats to TNR more cats this year and to offer TNR services to people who otherwise could not afford to spay and neuter feral cats in their neighborhood.
