Recently tumbling into town, The Wild Weed Artisan Shop has put down some roots in the space next to the courthouse annex on Ford Street in Llano.
Thoroughly enamored by the Artisan Market in Brownwood, Mary Chamberlain and her husband, Ben, decided that another was needed elsewhere in the hill country and went on a shopping spree for the perfect shop/location, visiting at least 10 different towns before settling on Llano.
I know that many of you are wondering about the status of the street work and when it will be completed. Due to the flooding back in October, there were a few setbacks and there was more extensive damage to several of the streets and additional repair work was needed.

During the 2019 Labor Day holiday, Texas A&M AgriLife Extension, Llano County will partner with the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to get drunk drivers off the roads and help save lives.
The high-visibility national enforcement campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, runs from Aug.
During America’s early history, women were denied some of the basic rights enjoyed by male citizens. Married women couldn’t own property and had no legal claim to any money they might earn. No female had the right to vote, as women were expected to focus on housework and motherhood, not politics.
The campaign for women’s suffrage was a small but growing movement in the decades before the Civil War.
The Llano High School Yellow Jacket Marching Band’s 2019 competition show, “Flashback to the ‘60s”, promises to induce both memories and nostalgia. The presentation includes several classics from that era: “House of the Rising Sun”, “Wipe Out”, “Stairway to Heaven” and “A Whiter Shade of Pale”.
Although the entire ensemble will work to get crowds into the somewhat seamy ambiance of New Orleans and Bourbon Street, the LYJB’s first drill showcases a dynamic duo.
There’s a lot of talk about Texas being back in football. True enough, but its rival of so long ago, those Aggies, certainly showed last year they are making moves toward the tier above respectability. 9-4 in 2018, under new Head Coach Jimbo Fisher. The campaign included a two-point loss to Clemson, a bowl win and a victory over LSU, in a contest that finished on Valentine’s Day.
“They run the team,” Fisher says of his players.
BLANCO—All-square in a couple of areas, August 16, as the Jackets opened a two-game scrimmage schedule with a very sturdy Panther team. Each scored two touchdowns.
The other rather important news, from my soapbox, is that the Llano quarterback competition—don’t call it a controversy—is a dead heat. Braxton Vickers and Case Kuykendall have been sharing duties since early May in 7-on-7.
He’s international now. From Llano to Costa Rica with a stopover in Lubbock. Dakoda Trull, Jackets’ Class of 2018, owns a high school powerlifting state championship plus a silver medal in college nationals while a freshman at Tech, and he has just captured the Junior North American Powerlifting title in Costa Rica.
“Won by quite a bit,” Dakoda told me right before he left for sophomore classes at Tech.
INGRAM—The champion got a win in kind of a “first,” while the freshman claimed silver in—no doubt—her first-ever competitive varsity race. Tom Moore High School was the scene, August 17, of the opening cross country meet of the season.
Might as well get to know Lauren Lee. Hopefully she’ll be walking Llano High halls, and running outdoors, till 2023.
“I wasn’t expecting second,” said Lee, “{more} like 10th.” “Ran well,” added Head Coach Steve Golemon.

The Gracious Mistress of the Parsonage and me recently celebrated our 48th wedding anniversary. It sure does not seem we have been married that long. I guess, as you get older, according to my grandmother, time goes faster. If that is true, I must be getting older.
We met in September, became engaged in February of the following year, and in August of that year we had our “I do” ceremony.
We have had quite a trip down through these years.

The Yellow Jacket Theatre Company and LHS Art Department collaborating with acclaimed Horror Author, C. Dennis Moore.
What the critics say about Moore's work:
“C. Dennis Moore has the unusual ability to connect with readers. I have to wonder why, with his ability to shock with everyday fascination and superb craft, he isn’t famous yet across our dark, dark world.
