Giving thanks in all things helps us see the good in bad times. It is one way we can encourage ourselves in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6) and stir up hope. To my Fellow Texans in the Hill Country, West Texas, and South Texas. Serving the past five terms as your Representative in the Texas House has been a high honor. During this time, I have logged more than 127,000 driving miles representing a district nearly the size of the State of West Virginia.
The Llano High School boys basketball team lost to Abilene High 47-39 Nov. 18 at Howard Payne University. It was the Yellow Jackets' season opener. "We were right there in the third quarter," head coach Landry Norwood said. "In the fourth quarter, they pulled away." The contest’s pace favored Llano at the beginning even though the Eagles led 9-7 after the first period.
The Llano High School girls basketball team competed in the Hamilton Tournament Nov. 16-18 with losses to Goldthwaite 56-23, Comanche 64-27, Lorena 66-4 and McGregor 39-35 in double overtime. “McGregor is a lot like us,” Llano head coach Jay Parker said. “They’re very physical, they hustle. The effort is there; they play hard.
Nov. 11, 1919, “Armistice Day” marked the first anniversary of the end of World War I. In 1926, Congress passed a resolution calling for an annual observance which then became a national holiday in 1938. An armistice is a formal agreement to end hostilities. On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918, fighting in WWI officially stopped after Germany signed an armistice agreement with Allies earlier in the day.
Last Monday morning, six Llano Junior High School students with their teacher, Nicholle Ritchie, attended the Commissioners Court. Their reason for being there was to bring attention to a State Centennial marker north of Llano on State Hwy. 16. It has been badly vandalized. Toby Byrne was the first to speak.
Last week The Llano News received a call about something happening in the hallways at the high school. The conversation piqued our interest, so we made the short drive to the campus to check it out. I was greeted in the office by Anita Hutson, who instructs the Life Skills class at the school, and gave a glimpse of what was happening in the hallway.
