“Way back in 1996,” Jerry Land recalls as he talks about the founding of Llano Recycling Opportunities.
The LRO celebrated its 20th year in existence this month, providing both recycling opportunities for county residents and opportunities for those with developmental delay and disability a place to become involved and be a part of the community.
Land has been on the board since its beginning.

Crews began sidewalk repairs Monday night in downtown Llano as part of a grant to repair the area from Ford to Berry streets. Tex Toler, Llano Main Street director, said the goal of the repairs are to maintain the rustic and original look of downtown Llano. The repairs are mostly being paid for through a grant.
Located just next door at 809 Berry Street, outside of Calamity & Grace, is Llano’s newest Little Free Library. The small cabinet, painted and decorated by Brianna and Arina Desai, is sponsored by the Llano Best Western and their father Ceto Desai, is open 24 hours a day. Students and adults are invited to take a book, and or leave a book.

Llano High School senior Sydney Owen has earned her place as a semifinalist in the National Merit Scholarship Program, a prestigious academic competition.
Approximately 1.6 million students from all over the United States entered this competition last fall in the hopes of being recognized for their academic achievements and earn valuable scholarships.
