The county will go without a director of its library system as the county commissioners voted to eliminate the position at a special-called meeting Monday morning.

Llano ISD welcomed its new superintendent at Monday’s board of trustees meeting. Mac Edwards, who was officially hired last week, was welcomed at Monday’s meeting. He comes to Llano from Paradise ISD, where he also served as superintendent. Edwards will begin his duties in Llano this summer.

The Llano High School Student Council has been recognized by the Texas Association of Student Councils (TASC) as an “Outstanding Student Council;” TASC has 1,269 member schools. Of those, Llano High School is one of only 314 student councils statewide to receive this highly-esteemed honor. Congressman Mike Conaway answered a variety of questions at a mildly contentious town hall meeting with constituents April 11 in Llano.
Conaway met with constituents for just under an hour and a half at the family life center at Lutie Watkins Memorial United Methodist Church.
In an opening statement, Conaway said health care is a “work in progress.” He said he was still committed to repeal some pieces of Obamacare, while leaving some part of it in place.
A pair from Llano won big at the American Chuck Wagon Association championship cook-off held March 31-April 1 in Fredericksburg. J Diamond B owned by Bobby and JoAnne Mims of Llano competed and placed in several categories. They finished second for their 1897 Newton chuck wagon. In the foot categories, the won first place in dessert, third in potatoes and fifth in meat and bread.

Llano ISD could see more green, thanks to the sun. A proposed solar farm on the Llano ISD school land in Tom Green County could net the school district extra funds, said Michael Dennison, a solar development manager for E.ON. Dennison represented the firm, which has 39,000 employees world-wide and is headquartered in Germany, at Monday’s commissioners court meeting.
Mac Edwards is officially the superintendent of Llano ISD. Edwards was awarded a three-year contract Tuesday by the LISD board of trustees, after the 21-day mandatory waiting period had expired. He was named the lone finalist for the position last month. Edwards will officially begin his duties July 1 in Llano.
Edwards comes to Llano from Paradise ISD in north Texas, where he was superintendent.
The new LISD superintendent has been in the education field for more than two decades.
