Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age” who absolutely insist on enjoying life “to the max,” took their show on the road in June as they journeyed to Fredericksburg for lunch at Pastabella. Judging by some of the comments overheard (“I’d like to take off all my clothes and roll around in this sauce,” “let’s come back here again immediately,” etc.), we deemed the outing a huge success.
Denay Baxter became the bride of Wade Skaggs on June 27th, at Selah Spring in Brady, Texas. An outdoor ceremony was performed at Selah Springs ranch. Bill Mary officiated the double ring ceremony. The bride is the daughter of Don and Deborah Baxter of Mason. She is the granddaughter of Nathaniel and Wanda Jordan of Art and the Late Bud and Polly Baxter. The groom is the son of Race and Jill Skaggs of Stockdale and the late Mr.
The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Library is currently showing the unique, exciting artwork of Don Coan. The display will remain in the foyer cabinets for the month of July. Coan makes all kinds of fixtures—from furniture to candle holders—with wood that he finds on his ranch Coan has previously had showings in Stephenville and Kerrville among others, and he founded the Cross Timbers Fine Arts Council in Stephenville. Important issues facing farmers and ranchers in Mason County were recently discussed and addressed at Texas Farm Bureau’s annual Presidents’ and Summer Commodity conferences in Marble Falls. “It’s important for farmers from across the state to gather together to share information, discuss what’s going on in the world and prepare for upcoming legislation or regulations that could affect us all,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said.
Mason County Judge Jerry Bearden has been honored by the Texas Judicial Academy for going the extra mile to be prepared to handle his duties as county judge. Judge Bearden was inducted as a Fellow in the Texas Judicial Academy on March 30, 2016, at a reception in Lubbock, at the Overton Hotel, during the 2016 Spring Judicial Education Session. The Llano Country Opry will be staged on Saturday, July 9, at the Lantex Theater in downtown Llano, Texas. The annual Moldenhauer Family Reunion will be held on Saturday, July 23, 2016. It is being hosted by the Willie Moldenhauer family, and the children of Lee Moldenhauer. Reigstration and social begin at 3:00 with the meal at 6:00. There will be horseshoe pitching, children's activities, bingo, musical entertainment, raffle prizes, discussion of family history and visiting. This year, the reunion is being held at the Gold Hub Senior Center, 1009 N.
R. A. Stephens R.A. Stephens, age 91, of Aransas Pass, Texas passed away March 24, 2016 at his residence. A graveside memorial service will be held in Eden, Texas, at the Eden Cemetery on Sunday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. The son of Roar Arthur Stephens and Ethel Bernice Miller was born January 8, 1925 in Pasche, Texas.
Alice Starks Alice Starks, of Mason, passed away on Saturday, July 2, at the age of 85. Mrs. Starks is survived by her husband, Tommy Starks of Mason, two children, Thomas Ray Starks II of Mason, Nancy Ann Aycock of Corinth, and three grandchildren. Visitation with the family was on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Elaine Robinson Clark Elaine R. Clark, of Mason, passed from this life to the next in Menard, TX, on Sunday, June 26, 2016, at the age of 94+ years. Elaine was born on March 15, 1922, in Rantoul, Illinois, to James Lee Robinson and Dannie Lee Vandervoort Robinson, while he was temporarily supervising a project there for Alamo Iron Works out of San Antonio, Texas.
Manley R. Stephens Manley Robert Stephens, age 83, of Ingleside, Texas passed away September 10, 2015 at his home. A graveside memorial service will be held in Eden Cemetery on Sunday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. The son of Roar Arthur Stephens and Ethel Bernice Miller was born December 24, 1932, in Pasche, Texas.
We just returned from New York City where we saw three Broadway shows plus the Rockettes at Radio City Music Hall. We walked away smiling after each show, but, not any more satisfied than after a concert at the Odeon theater in Mason, Texas. We’ve got the lights, the curtains, the marquee, and the stage but they have the BIG ticket in the Big Apple. Ticket prices for shows we saw were between $150 to $225 per person.
Mark Hierholzer, local pianist, composer and choral director will be giving a concert of his own works on Friday, July 15 at 7:30 PM at St. Joseph’s Halle, 212 W. San Antonio Street in Fredericksburg. The concert will consist of five Toccatas for piano. These works were written during the period between October 2015 and May 2016.

The 2015-2016 Mason County Queen’s Court would like to thank the Community of Mason for supporting them throughout the year. We live in such an amazing and generous town that continues to support each other in all endeavors. Night in Old Fredericksburg will present the new Sommerzeit Festival on Saturday, July 16, in conjunction with the Gillespie County Pari-Mutuel Horse Races held that Saturday and Sunday, July 16-17. Sommerzeit is German for “Summer Time.” According to the host Gillespie County Fair and Festivals Association, this event celebrates the cultures of the Hill Country, and features a Mexican Mercado, Cowboy Grill, and Night in Old Fredericksburg Biergarten.
Sterling Sam Jordan was inducted into the U. S. Navy at the Navy Recruiting Station in San Antonio, Texas. His father, Ernest Max Jordan, had told him to get into anything but the infantry (Army World War I). Sterling volunteered for the Navy. He was sent by train to the Naval Training Center, San Diego, California on October 4, 1944 for his basic training.
We would like to invite all veterans to join our Faces of Freedom float for the Round Up Parade on Saturday, July 9th. Please meet in front of the pharmacy between 9:30-9:45a.m. All of our WWII veterans will be honored as the parade’s Grand Marshal this year. Immediately following the parade the WWII veterans will be dropped off at the new Grunts Frozen Yogurt shop on the square by the Chamber of Commerce for a free ice cream.

The Fredericksburg Minor Little League Softball Allstars team took home the District 26 championship Wednesday night, in Fredericksburg, with awin over Blanco 13-3. The girls played really well going undefeated throughout the tournament with wins over Burnet 11-3, Kerrville 22-4, and Blanco 13-2. And Now, Your Round Up Weather Forecast! This is Mason's big weekend. Once a year, everyone fills up every available room, bunks with local relatives, or just drives in for the day. It's Round Up time again. From Thursday through the early hours of Sunday, Mason is about to be overrun with trailers, boots, cowboy hats and country music.

The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, June 28th for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 34 members and 2 visitors in attendance. Incoming President Jess Irwin passed out the program schedule for July and August. Lion Michael Cope announced that the Commercial Bank will have a 115 year celebration at Lea Lou Co-op Thursday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

The Mason Co. M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library is hosting a special book signing event for Judy Schoenfeld, author of Mason Country Schools: Drawings, Photos, Histories, and Stories. Judy will be at the library on Tuesday, July 19th from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. Books may also be purchased in the Archives section of the library when open or during Round Up on July 9th in a booth on the courthouse lawn.

This is a busy part of summer. I was ready for lazy days. I don’t think this is the week for lazy. We welcomed our new pastor, Tim Fahrenthold, on Sunday with a delicious lunch. Welcome Pastor Tim and Claudia. This week is Roundup in Mason. After an Independence Day celebration, Mason will continue the party.
