Second Chance – Mason Animal Rescue is sponsoring its second annual Pawtail Party on Saturday, April 22, 2017. The party is being hosted by Keith and Sue Kaan at their residence on Comanche Creek beginning at 6:30 p.m. and will feature an outstanding array of things to sample and enjoy.
The more ? calls I get, the more I miss the rotary phones. One didn’t have to push 1-2-3 or etc.. Most calls that were called in error was due to your finger. Then, when you did make a missed dialed call, you apologized for the bother. If you did get a call that you didn’t want to take, you just left the phone off the hook.
The hole story There’s a website called ‘the dodo.’ I was not aware of this site until recently, which is kind of surprising, since it’s one of those sites dedicated to whining about stuff. Nothing cheers me up like whiners. They kind of legitimize my sense of what’s important, because they complain about such silly things.
We want to thank the Mason Study Club for their continuing hard work on behalf of the library! They presented us with a generous contribution made possible by their Chili on the Square event. The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, February 21st for its weekly luncheon meeting. there were 27 members and 8 visitors in attendance. “Boss” Lion Jess Irwin said that on this date in 1794 Antonio Lopez De Santa Anna was born. 42 years later he would lead his 5000 Mexican troops against the 186 defenders of the Alamo.
On Saturday, March 4, 2017, the office of Congressman Conaway will be hosting an Academy Day event for students interested in applying to a Military Service Academy. The event will be held from 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. at Angelo State University, MCS Building, Room 100, 2200 Deana Drive in San Angelo. The Academy Day program will feature information about the nomination process.

SAN ANTONIO –The Champion Junior Market Goat Show was held February 16, 2017 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Fifth grader Dakota Martin from Mason, Texas, was named Reserve Grand Champion Market Goat out of 900 total entries. She is a member of the Mason County 4-H Club and enjoys livestock judging, spending time with friends and family and showing animals. Martin has three older sisters involved in livestock showing.

You've Got to Follow the List! Any project requires planning. And, the first step in that planning is to make a list of what is necessary to successfully complete the project. And, in order to be done well, the list should be prioritized, putting the most important elements at the beginning. Much like the steps in a recipe, if you fail to follow everything, just as it's organized, the final product doesn't quite work the way it should.
The annual Book and Bake Sale is the primary fundraiser for the Friends of the Library. We need your book donations as soon as possible. Book donations can be dropped off at the library. If you have books to donate, please pack them in cardboard boxes. Use separate boxes for fiction and nonfiction, if possible. An extended special preview opportunity and sale for members of the Friends of the Library will be held on Friday, March 31 from 2 p.m.
Docents for the Mason County Museum located on the second floor of the Historical Building met Thursday for an informational business meeting and luncheon. Led by museum president, Nancy Jordan, docents were given a list of contact numbers, some refresher “do’s” and & “don’ts” plus a complimentary cookbook from the Cherokee Rose Antique Shop. The Museum will open for the 2017 season on Thursday, March 2nd, and end on Saturday November 18th.
The tennis team has been hitting the courts hard the last three weeks. In preparation for team tennis that starts this weekend, the team has hosted three tournaments in Mason and traveled to Fredericksburg for two more. Mason hosted the Puncher Shootout on February 10-11. Teams that participated were Abilene Wylie (4A State Champions), Fredericksburg, Kerrville, Liberty Hill, Magnolia, Midland, and Odessa Permian.
Nina Beatrice “Beady” Beam, a longtime resident of Killeen, TX, was born in Rosedale, Mississippi on January 6th, 1931. She departed this life for her heavenly home on February 20th, 2017. Beady was born the 7th child of nine to Conyers Wilson Sosebee and Clatie Belzora Lum. During her teen years, Beady excelled in basketball and enjoyed playing the guitar.
Mary Pauline Gierisch Beam of Mason, passed away on Monday, February 20. 2017, at the age of 97. She was born June 7, 1919, in Mason to Edmund Gierisch Sr. And Elsie Schneider Gierisch. She married Gorman Beam on September 9, 1938. Mary was preceded in death by her parents and also her husband in 1998. She is survived by her five children Pauline Robertson and husband Robert of Buchanan Dam, Larry Beam and wife Susan of Benbrook, Sharon Stewart and Don Balsams of Georgetown, Brenda Davis and hu ...
Ramona Gibbs Nicholson went to be with her Lord on Friday, February 24, 2017, at the age of 77. She was born November 2, 1939, in Fredonia, TX and raised by her grandparents Verna Lee and Dave E Gibbs. In 1958 Ramona graduated from Mason High School and married her true partner in life, Rocky Free Nicholson on May 30. Rocky and Ramona had 2 beautiful children, Brenda Ann and Bradley Free.

The Punchers baseball team took the lead late in the game in a 6-4 victory over Comfort last Saturday. The game was tied at one at the end of regulation. A five-run lead in the ninth inning was just enough for the Punchers to hold off Comfort for the victory. Comfort scored three runs in the failed comeback. Mason Punchers Varsity collected 13 hits.

Last week the Punchers and Cowgirls held their annual Invitational golf tournament at the Comanche Creek Golf Course. What a wonderful week for golf we had. The temperature was perfect for golf. The Punchers started the week off with a second place finish, three shots behind Fredericksburg. Aaron Reardon-3rd medalist shooting 82, Stran Stultz-4th (84), Kyle Montoya-6th (86), Jorge Lopez (94) and Chase Pawvlik (94).
The Seaquist House, located at 405 Broad St. in Mason, TX will hold its first public tour of 2017 this coming Saturday, March 4th. There have been a few changes made since last year. The tour hours are now 10:00 a.m. till 2:00 p.m. and the tours will run every half hour.

SAN ANTONIO –The Junior Market Lamb show contest was held on February 16, 2017 at the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo. Aspen Martin of Mason, Texas was awarded Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb and received a $10,000 scholarship. She also won champion medium wool. Martin is a member of the Mason County 4-H. Martin’s family is heavily involved in the show industry.
4H members have been practicing weekly for District Contest in Consumer Decision Making. The contest was held on Friday, February 17 at the Spur Arena in San Angelo, TX. The Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Monday, March 6, at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Mark Ward, club vice president, will present a program on the winter Milky Way. HCA’s members live in Central Texas. Some members are experienced and accomplished astronomers, while others are beginners.

You've Got to Follow the List! Any project requires planning. And, the first step in that planning is to make a list of what is necessary to successfully complete the project. And, in order to be done well, the list should be prioritized, putting the most important elements at the beginning. Much like the steps in a recipe, if you fail to follow everything, just as it's organized, the final product doesn't quite work the way it should.

The hole story There’s a website called ‘the dodo.’ I was not aware of this site until recently, which is kind of surprising, since it’s one of those sites dedicated to whining about stuff. Nothing cheers me up like whiners. They kind of legitimize my sense of what’s important, because they complain about such silly things.
The more ? calls I get, the more I miss the rotary phones. One didn’t have to push 1-2-3 or etc.. Most calls that were called in error was due to your finger. Then, when you did make a missed dialed call, you apologized for the bother. If you did get a call that you didn’t want to take, you just left the phone off the hook.
Wonders of the World?... With the rancor running rampant in the world today, it’s remarkable that the Seven Wonders of the World are staying stitched, at least so far. This day, I cite three personal “wonderments,” none of which rises to the level of minutia. They have long been bewildering to me.
The weather is very confusing. It is not yet spring but I saw fruit trees blooming, red buds in full bloom, and even a wisteria vine in full bloom. If you believe thunder in February will predict cool or even freezing weather in April, winter is not over. Lent begins today.
