Mason’s Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women “of a certain age,” who absolutely insist on enjoying life to the fullest, are happy to report that April’s “field trip,” (literally!) to the home of Kacey Butcher, was a huge success. Meaning we made it up her driveway! I mean! No - the wildflowers, like the hospitality AND the white bean chili, were picture-perfect.
At the area contest January 19th, Mason had 6 teams competing. Mason’s team of Jack Gillespie, Wyatt Row, Cy Nobles, and Ryne Todd placed 4th with their automated tractor. The team of Leroy Bobbitt, Laney Lastly, and Cutter Couvillion, placed 3rd with their automated plant picker. Taking 2nd place, and qualifying to go to state robotics in May, were Hunter Bradley, Jordan Lyles, and Scout Magnus. On February 1st, the Mason Jr.
Everyone should take the time to visit our state capitol and admire the beauty of the architecture and landscaping. The chambers of the Senate and House of Representatives are vastly beautiful and emit an aura of power when viewed from the both galleries. Here resides of government of Texas in full view to be admired and respected.

Last Sunday, April 28, the Odeon All-Stars kicked off a very successful fundraising drive with a free concert to purchase new seating for the Odeon Preservation Association’s (OPA) Odeon theater. The Odeon All-Stars, consisting of Bill Worrell, Daryl Watson, David Halley, Sam Baker, Spider Johnson, and Chip Dolan performed for three hours to some Odeon faithful patrons.
Boss Lion Marty Bentson opened the April 23 meeting of the Mason Lions Club by welcoming Randy Hinckley, Monica Hinckley, Ann Scarth, Carol Ann Weston, and Sue Pledger as our guests. Lion Jerry Ellis introduced Katherine Hassler as the first speaker. Mrs. Hassler was a nurse in the U. S. Air Force for about eleven years, until the birth of her third child. As we get closer to summer the City tasks and projects seem to just grow. The crews are still working on the drainage improvements on Spring St, and we are hopeful that the concrete will be poured and cured in the next few days and we can reopen that section of road.
BRYAN, Texas – For Capital Farm Credit, 2018 was a record year. Thanks to strong financial results, the largest agricultural lender in Texas is able to return $87.5 million in cash patronage to its borrowers, with another $96.8 million set aside for future disbursement consideration. This total 2019 patronage declaration of $184.3 million marks a record, as well. Capital Farm Credit has returned almost $1 billion in patronage dividends since 2007.

The Mason Cowgirls track & field team competed well at the Regional Track & Field Meet in Kingsville on April 26 & 27. Our cowgirls advanced to the finals in almost every event that we competed in, and we ended up as the 8th place team overall. Our 4x200m relay ran their fastest time of the year on Friday in prelims with a time of 1:50.88, and our 4x400m relay team also ran their fastest time of the year in prelims with a time of 4:15.45.

Our Mason Cowgirls competed in the Area Track Meet on Tuesday, April 16, in Charlotte. Our cowgirls competed well advancing to Regionals in almost every event that we competed in at the Area Meet. Our girls' team finished in 2nd place overall as a team with 118 points behind San Saba who had 188 points. Menard/Kimble/Mason TRTA will be meeting on May 2, 2019, at 11:00 a.m., at the London United Methodist Church. Bill Hight of Long Mountain will be the guest speaker, talking about school days in the area.
It's been such a great year, started helping on a Habitat for Humanity house and it's been so heartfelt. From the new people I've met, worked with and now admire so much. Learning, and watching new building things, and the different kinds of far out tools.... It's been 11 years since we built our house, apparently I've missed the building.

Spring has sprung, and it’s time for the Mason County Habitat for Humanity Annual Spring Benefit. Welcome May. Do you remember May Day festivals at school when we danced around the may pole? This involved the tether ball pole and lots of crepe paper. Some years we had costumes. I remember a swim suit costume with crepe paper wings that transformed us into butterflies. I hope students today have fond memories of elementary school that are not test related. John and I decided last week to make the trip to 700 Springs Ranch south of Junction to see where the South Llano River begins.
Hill Country Cattlewomen is hosting their 3rd Women’s Ranch Seminar on June 6th 2019 at the Gillespie County Farm Bureau Event Building in Fredericksburg, Texas. The Seminar will begin at 9 a.m. and end at 3 p.m. This year’s event is sponsored by Lyssey & Eckel Feeds, Gillespie County Farm Bureau, Capital Farm Credit, and the Texas Beef Council.
Hill Country Astronomers (HCA) will meet at 6:30 PM, Monday, May 6, in the HEB Activity Room at Hill Country University Center in Fredericksburg. Lindsay Fuller, Ph.D., will present “Exploring the Neighborhood of Supermassive Black Holes.” Dr. Fuller uses data from SOFIA (Stratospheric Observatory for Infrared Astronomy), a 2.5 meter telescope that is mounted on a Boeing 747, to explore the material surrounding the black holes at the center of active galaxies.
Donald Boyd passed away at the age of 86 on Sunday, April 28, 2019. Visitation will be Thursday, May 2nd from 5-7 p.m. at Mason Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held Friday, May 3rd at the Art United Methodist Church at 10 a.m. Interment will be after the service at the Gooch cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Marge Boyd of Art, a daughter, Laura Strobel of North Richland Hills and two grandchildren, Danielle Strobel Jr., and Rebecca Grace Strobel. Condolences may be sent to ...
Making Community on the Colorado River On Monday, April 29th, just after noon, Ethan West completed a 500+ mile trek that began on April 1st. He had put in to the South Llano River near Telegraph, and the journey began. In the month since he began, he has traveled through many Hill Country and South Texas communities.
