At the September 3rd meeting of the Mason Lions Club, the program was presented by Lion J.D. Kidwell who, with Mason County M. Bevin Eckert Memorial Librarian, Patti Grote, provided an update on some of the recent activities that the Library has been engaged in over the last several months.
Mr.
Each year, during certain months, there are activities and decisions that need attention. While most of the people of Mason see September as a time for the kids to go back to school and a time to enjoy the excitement of Friday night football, at the City and other local governmental groups we have another task.
For their second outing of the 2019 football season, the Mason Punchers, traveled to Johnson City on Friday night to meet up with the LBJ Eagles.
After a tough beginning last week, the Mason boys showed their fans that they had picked themselves up, dusted themselves off and that they were ready to play.
Though the game began with Mason kicking off to Johnson City, the Eagles had difficulty doing anything constructive with the ball.
Last week, the Purple team had their first home game of the year as the Johnson City Eagles came to town.
The Punchers started off really strong, jumping out to an early 14 point lead after the first quarter.
It didn’t slow down in the second as the Punchers scored 2 more times making it a 27-0.

Hopefully, we can find a solution soon as they are very destructive. I would suggest that the people in town STOP putting corn out for the deer.

Gun Control
Gerry:
As the number of victims from mass shootings of innocent people by deranged individuals increases, the debate over gun control rages on. Those on the political left who would like to eliminate private ownership of guns in an attempt to stop the slaughter ignore the fact that a gun has no will of it’s own.

Divided we fall
Some of my earliest memories are of sitting on the floor in front of a 13” black & white television, watching grainy, poorly focused video of the assassination of John F. Kennedy, played over and over. Since I was a few months shy of my third birthday when that event occurred, it’s possible that what I remember are reruns of that horrible crime, televised during the months that followed.
When Phones Aren’t Friends…
A majority of us have drawn lines in the dirt, emphasizing the point beyond which we simply will not be pushed by pesky, ever-encroaching technology. Most of us gradually fold, however. In retreat mode, we still draw lines, but they are evermore faint, each drawn with diminishing enthusiasm.
I was a stubborn hold-out when smart phones came along.
We have lived in our home for 41 plus years. We had a new and unexpected mess this week. We have had wild hogs come to visit and leave a huge mess in our yard. Hopefully, we can find a solution soon as they are very destructive. I would suggest that the people in town STOP putting corn out for the deer.
Beef.
It’s what’s for dinner.
Or supper.
Or lunch.
Or dinner.
Maybe even breakfast.
Where’s the beef?
All over town.
Beef.
From Old French “boef.”
According to trusty Webster.
Otherwise known as a full-grown ox, cow, bull, or steer.
Especially one bred and fattened for meat.
One can also beef up a football team.
Go Punchers!
Or have a beef with somebody.
That’s no fun.
Have some beef tea instead.
Supposed to be good for you.
So say the British ...
