One week after scratching and clawing their way to a district title for the 10th season in a row, the Mason High School varsity football team had a much easier matchup on Friday, Nov. 6 as the Punchers cruised to an easy 49-0 shutout win over the Brackett High School Tigers on Senior Night.
The Puncherdome was packed as Mason put together a dominant performance from start to finish in all facets of the game.

7th grade
The seventh grade Punchers ran into some stiff competition as they took on Burnet in the last game of the season. The boys played hard but unfortunately came up short as the last buzzer sounded with the scoreboard reading 30-6 in favor of Burnet. These boys had a good season with a record of 5-4 against good opponents, two of those losses being to schools of higher classification.
Scoring for the seventh grade was Ray Row on a pass from Kalen Langehennig.

So we’ve been renovating, and our dining table has suffered as a result. It has become a catch-all for all manner of stuff. We have found it remarkably challenging to gather around the table for a pleasant meal! Add to the chaos of construction the increasing pace of chasing four kids around the county, and we are finding it even more difficult to maintain the sacredness of a meal together.
But I am convinced- the power of a simple shared meal is worth fighting for.
The last week has, to use understatement, been very stressful. Though all of us like hearing that the results of an election went the way we had hoped, the lack of clarity and the wavering of leads during this particular election drove many of us to absolute distraction.
For all intents and purposes, the results of most races are now known, though some Congressional and Senatorial races will have runoffs to determine final winners.

With the previous naysayers concerning the Election printed in this paper, my belief is: God prevented Joe Biden from his previous bids for Presidency, God saw the fractured time of this country...and...”Now is your time, Joe. Your job won’t be easy, but with the Grace of ALL My Believers; this Country will Heal.
I stealthily slipped up to the hunting blind, trying carefully not to disturb any whitetail deer that might be in the vicinity. Just as I went to open the door caught a movement out of the corner of my eye.
Glancing up, I saw a goat looking at me from a nearby live oak thicket.
This simple yet delicious loaf is from Mr. Leonti’s Brooklyn Bread Lab, and relies upon an overnight rest and fresh yeast to ensure the development of the sour, tangy flavor and chewy texture of sourdough bread without having to mess with “starter.” It’s a great bread, but you do have to plan ahead at least one day!
Ingredients:
4 cups of bread flour
2 ½ teaspoons kosher salt
1 ¼ teaspoons yeast
2 cups room temperature water
All-Purpose flour (for dusting)

Lots of people have cast negative ballots, said tacky things and made disparaging gestures about the year 2020 in general. The unanimous verdict indicated that, as one West Texan put it, “Ain’t what we signed up for.”
A pessimist claims that if he attempted to cross an intersection-- even if he looked every direction two or three times--his 2020 record of the “crossing” would be less than memorable.
Eggplant Parmesan is one of mine and my sister’s favorite dishes. My sister (Judy) shared this recipe with me, and it happens be to what we order nearly every time we have a chance to go an Italian Food Restaurant. Pasta Bella’s Eggplant Parm is one of the best, with a little glass of Vino, makes it even better!

Last week I discussed the varied and fascinating geology of Mason County. This week, I’ll discuss how geology exerts a strong influence on the plants and animals that we can expect to see in a given area.
From a geological perspective, soils are typically very young, having formed within the last few million years.
