After a week of horrible weather, we are so glad to see the beautiful sunshine. Snow is pretty. Snow is fun to look at from a warm house. The cold was not fun. We were lucky that we had some firewood to burn in the fireplace in our all electric house.
This latest cold front taught us many important survival needs including to "pay attention." I do take notice of the weather, and on this occasion, it really caught me rushing about to prepare.
I had my faucets and pipes outside wrapped, but lost a really old one. The hoop greenhouse made it, with one small oil heater and 2 small grow lights.
What a week! I am getting rather good at feeding cows, chopping ice, and wrapping pipes. I’ve traded in my spatula, saucepan and apron for pipe wrenches, an axe and gorilla tape. So, I have been trying to find new ways to get warm.
I’m usually a coffee drinker but I thought I would bring out some oldies but goodies.

That notice, tucked away in the "World Deaths" section of the newspaper, opened the curtains of memory in my mind. Out on the stage of nostalgia rode all the movie heroes of my childhood — Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, Rex Allen, Johnny Mack Brown, Allen "Rocky"
These decadent beauties will make you the hit of the party or table whenever you show up with a plate of them. They are easy to make, so you can whip up a batch of them in a very short period of time.
Ingredients:
4 oz. semisweet chocolate
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 sticks unsalted butter

Mason's Scarlet Punchers, those intrepid women "of a certain age," who absolutely insist on enjoying life to the fullest, have en masse crossed "Alaskan cruise" off their bucket lists after last week's frigid ordeal. Many of the members moved here from other parts of the United States and have seen this kind of weather before, but they had hoped to dodge that particular bullet for the rest of their lives.
We are all thawed out and back open this week from 10 to 5.
