Ask any veteran deer hunter if they can remember their first hunt and I’m sure it brings back many fond memories. They will remember who they were with, the weather, the anticipation, the excitement of spotting a deer, the joy and relief of a successful shot, or the dismay of an opportunity missed.
November came right on in, whether I was ready or not. I had knee replacement surgery last Tuesday. No, I am not as tough as I thought I was. Daughter Tina is doing great as our nurse for a week or two. I hope she survives. I came home from the hospital on Halloween.
Is ‘Fake’ the New Normal?... We called prized possessions “gen-u-wine” back in the day. That’s not the correct spelling, of course, but when the word fell from our lips, we emphasized each syllable to make sure hearers clearly understood that our claims were 100% true. “Genuine” back then was about as far away from “fake” as the east is from the west.

Loyal fans of the Mason Punchers could be forgiven for being very confused by the game plan during last Friday's meeting with the Harper Longhorns. Receivers were toting the ball. QB Matt Kerr shot off pass after pass. And, kicker Kyle Montoya got to boot in not one, but two, field goals for the Punchers. Head Coach Michael McLeod knew that Harper is currently going through a growth and rebuilding process, and he knew they've had a rather tough season.
Mark your calendars for the 3rd Annual Mason County WinterFisch, which will kick off with the WinterFisch Celebration on December 7th. WinterFisch begins on December 7th and continues through April 31st.
Wind farm developers are still rushing to start wind farm projects before the federal Production Tax Credit phase down increasingly takes effect. The Hill Country has fortunately not been impacted, although nearby areas such as Mills, McCullough, and Concho counties are seeing a progression in industrial wind farm projects. Updates on these developments and others will be discussed at a brief, informational meeting hosted by Save Our Scenic Hill Country Environment (SOSHCE).
Fall is here in Mason, Texas! Temperatures are starting to drop and the “Gem of the Hill Country” is kicking off its season with wine and hunting. Over the past month, our local vineyards and wineries have been preparing the fruits of their labor, with stained fingers and big smiles.
