Our first place winner for our virtual dog contest is Nolan and Sam as Travis and Old Yeller! Congratulations! Second place goes to Zaine and Tex. Finally, our third place winners are Sean and his little “spider” Apollo. Thank you to everyone who participated in the contest! We would like to thank Dos Rios RV Park for providing our first place prize and Tractor Supply for donating our second and third place prizes.
Mason Young Life has been blessed to be in ministry with Mason high school students for 8 years. As we approach another amazing year of sharing the good news of the Gospel with students, we face a significant financial impact on the ministry due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Out of respect for our struggling families and businesses, we chose to cancel our Spring fundraiser and rely on monthly donors, cash reserves, and “belt tightening” to keep the ministry afloat.
On September 25, 26, and 27th, the Mason County M. Beven Eckert Memorial Library will be having a virtual dog contest. At past Old Yeller Day events, we have held the dog parade and dog contest, but this year we will go virtual. We will not have any specific categories, so feel free to dress as Old Yeller and Travis, show off your pet’s Halloween costume early, or just pose with you and your dog! To enter the contest, just submit a new photo of you and your dog.
Since we are unable to celebrate Old Yeller Day with our usual events this year, we have put together a display of past Old Yeller Days in the foyer of the library. The very first celebration of Old Yeller Day was in 1999 and we have a photo album as well as some newspaper clippings of the event.
With the continued presence of COVID-19, getting a flu shot is “more important than ever,” according to James Partin, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Hill Country Memorial. “People need to remember there is a significant number of worldwide deaths from influenza every year,” Partin said. “So we have to deal with that on top of COVID-19.
Due to continuing Covid 19 concerns, the German Hymnfest scheduled for September 27, 2020, at the First United Methodist Church of Mason has been canceled. This would have been the 69th edition of the Hymnfest, and hopefully the tradition will continue on September 26, 2021.
Beginning this month, the Mason County Food Bank will be open on the second and fourth Monday of each month. Hours are 3:00 pm – 5:30 pm and pickup is curbside. Please wear your mask when talking to volunteers. The Food Bank is also delivering food to persons who are ill, disabled or who have no transportation to our site.
Fredericksburg, TX (September 8, 2020) – The latest production at the Fredericksburg Theater Company (FTC) is the rock n’ roll musical revue Smokey Joe’s Café. The show will have six performances at the Steve W. Shepherd Theater, 1668 Hwy 87 South, Fredericksburg, TX, 78624. Smokey Joe’s Café features numerous hit songs that were composed by Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, the songwriting duo for many popular artists of the 50’s and 60’s, such as Elvis Presley, Dion, The Coasters ...
Mason Community Kitchen kicked off its fall season Saturday by making 163 containers of Dee Henrich’s taco soup with beef, beans and vegetables. The frozen containers will be distributed through the food pantry, the senior center, and the local schools. The organization was grateful to receive recent donations of ground beef from Whitworth Ranch, Missy Crocker’s MTXBeef, and the Hill Country CattleWomen.
