WE DID IT!!!
Despite the significant changes to our daily lives, the 18th Texas Silver-Haired Legislature (TSHL) has been “doing business as UNUSUAL.” Our legislative session – where we study proposed resolutions by TSHL members, process them through committee, and then vote on them for presentation to the Governor, Lt. Governor, and the members of both houses – was postponed from early May to late July in Austin so that we could ensure the safety of our TSHL representatives who are ...
With the continued presence of COVID-19, getting a flu shot is “more important than ever,” according to James Partin, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Hill Country Memorial.

To help fifth-grade students explore agriculture and better understand the science involved in farming and ranching, Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) is launching the Ag Inquiry Science Fair (AISF).
It is the first project of its kind for the state’s largest farm and ranch organization, but one TFB hopes cultivates agricultural literacy and awareness.
“Modern agriculture looks much different than what many kids and adults often picture when they think of farming and ranching,” Will Frey, Mas ...
It seems as though the only story that is in the daily news is the political campaigning happening on the national scene, and you may have noticed that locally the political signs for the City election have started to reappear in the yards around town. Although the City campaigns will certainly not play out with the emotionalism of the national politics, because the local elections were delayed when the spring time concerns with Covid were so strong they will be held at the same time as the s ...
The Mason High School varsity football team was dealt another tough loss at home on Friday, September 11 when San Saba High School caught fire late in the second half as the Punchers fell 32-0 to the Armadillos at the Puncherdome.
From the opening snap, the Punchers knew they faced an uphill climb when they, unfortunately, had to be without the services of two of their best players vs.
Last week the Punchers traveled to San Saba to take on the Armadillos.
The Punchers struck first with a quick score in the first quarter. San Saba was able to get a score right before half time to pull within 2 points.
After half time the Punchers were able to score once more pushing their lead to 16-6.
7th grade
The seventh grade Punchers came out with a win and shut out in their first appearance against San Saba, 14-0. The boys played well, there are some things we need to work on but overall they did a good job.
Scoring for the seventh grade were Kalen Langehennig with a rushing touchdown, Carsten Hays with a rushing touchdown and Rayder Row with a 2 point conversion.

We have had wonderful rains. Prayers are answered. My yard is so wet that I sink when I walk in the grass. This is an unusual event. We are so thankful for all the rain. I have emptied 3.25 inches since it started raining. It usually is not accurate as it is partially under a giant oak tree.
We welcome Fall on September 22.
The best way to ruin a good worry session is turning it into prayer. For the many people who struggle to pray, they seem to have no problem worrying. Actually, most of us are experts at it. I really think worry is misplaced and uninitiated prayer. This one little discipline - turning worries into prayers - is life changing.
Jesus gave us lots of promises regarding prayer - they are worth looking for.
It is not uncommon for churches to bear the name of the community in which they are located.
For example, in my Texas Hill County Telephone Cooperative phone book there are listings for Fredericksburg Bible Church, Hunt Baptist Church, Kerrville Nazarene Church, Medina United Methodist Church and Uvalde Mennonite Church.
All of these are simple combinations of the name of a community and the name of a particular church group.
It quickly became the perfect storm, powerful enough to make strong men cry. The same goes for strong women, too, but Kim Peacock, president of GNS Foods in Arlington, is giving her all to keep her family-owned specialty premium nut company afloat despite “blows to the bow” that might cause others to jump ship.

We were almost half way through September, and the lack of summer rains were beginning to take a real toll on our Mason County landscape. Pastures were crisp and brown, trees were going into dormancy, dropping leaves and even limbs as they struggled to make it through the season. The grasshoppers that had plagued us early in the summer hatched out a new crop and ravenously nibbled away even the tiniest hints of new growth.

Difficult times bring out the most creative and industrious impulses in people. That could not be truer about Cindy Kothmann and the measures she began enacting during a very hot and dry summer that was plagued with crop after crop of grasshoppers. At night, Cindy would go out into her garden with a headlamp on in the evening and pick the grasshoppers off her plants.

Mason County is known for its majestic oak trees, and most of the county is best described as oak–grassland woodland and savannah. Although seven species of oaks— Plateau Live Oak, Post Oak, Blackjack Oak, Spanish Oak, White Shin Oak, Burr Oak, and Chinquapin Oak—are native to the county, the first three of these oaks dominate in most areas.
