11-01-17@1251 Deputy Stafford responded to a Suspicious Vehicle on Hwy 87S near the Gillespie Co line. Vehicle was gone prior to arrival. 11-01-17@2106 Deputy Hebert responded to Loose Livestock on Hwy 29W 11-01-17@2039 Mason EMS handled a walk-in patient that had fallen out of a tree stand. Patient was transported to Hill Country Memorial Hospital. 11-02-17@0204 Deputy Hebert responded to Suspicious Activity on Rainey St.
I again want to say “Thank you!” to some people who support the library. The Mason Garden Club has been working to ready the front flowerbeds for winter. The beds look so neat now! The ladies worked hard, and we appreciate their willingness to share their talent for gardening and to give their time and effort to keep the library looking beautiful!
“Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg called to order the November 28 meeting of the Mason Lions Club. Thirty Lions Club members were present at the weekly meeting along with five guests. Lion County Commissioner Will Frey introduced his guest, Curtis Donaldson, who Lion Will said is an authority on Texas A&M basketball.
The weather is much more fall than winter, but if we are lucky there may be some cold weather before the end of the month. We probably will not have a white Christmas in Mason, but the lights around the Square and in Heritage Park certainly lend a very festive holiday brightness to every evening.
Seven child residential and foster homes participated in the second hunt of the 2017 season with Operation Orphans Saturday, November 18. The 47 boys harvested 33 does, 6 spikes, 12 management bucks and one hog for a total of 52 animals. Kids came from Methodist Home, Waco; West Texas Boys Ranch, San Angelo; Boys and Girls Country, Hockley; Bluebonnet Youth Home, Yoakum; Boles Home, Quinlan; Foster’s Home, Stephenville; and Methodist Boy’s Ranch, Waco.

The Thanksgiving weekend is behind us, although I hope that we all continue to remember and give thanks for the great number of blessings we enjoy in this community and this nation. After the family gatherings on Thursday with the abundance of food, and the hard won victory of the Punchers on Friday, the Light up Our Town festivities on Saturday were a wonderful addition to a full and enjoyable long weekend.
Laura Fulkerson with Mason County SOB Honey was the special guest at the Mason County 4H meeting on Monday, November 20. Ryli Ruffin, President of the Mason 4H Club called the meeting to order at 6 PM. A variety of topics were on the agenda including local service projects, the upcoming Mason County Livestock Show and Expo and the 4H annual concession stand fundraiser at the livestock show. Parliamentarian Will Ince introduced the special guest Laura Fulkerson.
Consumers have good news to chew on this Thanksgiving as food prices dropped 4.3 percent from this time last year. A traditional, Texas-style Thanksgiving dinner for 10 will cost $46.75 this year, according to the Texas Farm Bureau (TFB) Thanksgiving Meal Report. “As we enter the holiday season, we all watch our budgets,” Mason County Farm Bureau President, Shannon Worrell said.
