“Boss” Lion Jim Heidelberg convened the weekly meeting of the Mason Lions Club on November 7. Twenty-eight members, including our guest speaker attended the meeting. “Boss” Jim reminded members there will be no meeting on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving Day.
“Boss” Jim invited members to attend the District 2-A1 2nd Cabinet Meeting in Brady on November 10-11.
Blue Ribbon Service Day came around again last Tuesday, and the students and their supervisor worked hard. The school has sent a “crew” for the past few years, and this project is truly helpful. We want to thank supervisor Stephanie Pierce and students Makenna Palacio, Kyra Wilson, Luis Cardenas, Ko Tedder, and Tyler Schmidt for doing a wonderful job cleaning up both inside and outside the library!

Operation Orphans, Inc. hosted 43 girls on October 28th for the first of 4 hunts which will be held this season. The remaining hunt dates for this season will be boy’s hunts on November 18, December 2 and January 6.
Since 1960, Operation Orphans, Inc. has had 18,517 kids participate. As one can imagine, things have changed a bit since it all began 58 years ago.

Jarrett Worrell, member of Mason County 4H recently exhibited his Hereford cattle at the American Royal in Kansas City, MO. Jarrett received the Southwest Region Show Heifer of the Year award for 2017, presented by the American Hereford Association. It is an honor bestowed upon Hereford cattle that have accumulated points according to the AHA National Show system. Jarrett also exhibited the Best Six Head Championship.

A hot, dry July and a wet August have led to increases in a natural fungus byproduct in some Texas corn. Despite the increase in fumonisin, or mycotoxin, in the Texas Panhandle, authorities say the food supply is safe.
“For years there have been processes in place to ensure the food on our grocery store shelves is safe,” Shannon Worrell, Mason County Farm Bureau president, said.

16-year-old Clint Lane of Mason, won his class at the 2017 National Sporting Clays Association’s (NSCA) National Championship held last week at its World Headquarters in San Antonio, TX. Over 2020 entrants from most of the 50 US States, and 16 Foreign Countries did their best to capture the Association’s most coveted prize.
