In early June, 13 names were etched onto the 4th Veteran’s Memorial located on the courthouse lawn. This has been an ongoing project of the Mason County Historical Commission for several years. So far, there are well over 400 names on those memorials which honor Mason citizens that have served in our military. The first memorial list veterans serving from the Texas War of Independence, Civil War, Mexican American War and the Spanish American War.
Mason Physical therapy and Wellness center celebrated the official chamber of commerce Ribbon Cutting ceremony for the clinic on Wednesday, June 28th 2017 . The clinic, which is located at 216 West College, directly behind the Frontera Medical Clinic, has been treating patients since Feb 1, 2016. The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, June 27th, for it’s weekly luncheon meeting. There were 29 members and four visitors in attendance. “Boss” Lion Jess Irwin read thank you notes from the Mason High Seniors who received scholarships from our club and passed out sign up sheets for volunteer duties at the upcoming rodeo roundup.
The heat and sunshine have come again, and I hope everyone had an opportunity to get out and enjoy the Fourth of July with family and friends. The nice rains of ten days ago are pretty much dried up again, and we all need to remember as we look forward to more sunshine and hot weather that water conservation is important every day.
WICHITA FALLS, Texas (June 27, 2017) - Brooke Rosber of Mason, graduated from Midwestern State University in May 2017. Midwestern State University had 442 undergraduate and graduate students who were awarded degrees in May 2017. Honor graduates receiving bachelor’s degrees included 42 summa cum laude, 64 magna cum laude, and 92 cum laude.

How much forage do I have? Experienced ranchers have lived through wet and dry cycles, and they understand forage accumulation and disappearance and livestock gains and losses. Some managers can just “tell by looking at it” if the forage they have is enough for the planned stocking rate and for improving the land resource. However, a systematic approach can improve decisions, evaluations, and reduce the risk to ranch resources associated with forage shortages.

June 4th-10th, the Texas high school rodeo finals were held in Abilene Texas. Texas is so large it has to be divided into 10 regions which host 12 rodeos throughout the year. Each region sends their top 10 competitors in each event for the state competition. Each event has 100 contestants fighting it out to represent Texas at nationals. At state, they had two go-rounds and a finals to complete competition.

The Mason Square Museum’s new summer Seek & Find Challenge has been such a success that it has been extended for the remainder of the summer! The Seek & Find Challenge’s goal is to make children from Kindergarten through Fifth grade aware of the history of Mason County in a fun and challenging format.
