A Real Gem Dear Citizens, I would like to express my appreciation for those whose efforts make our municipal government function. As a small town it takes dedicated management to have the city services we do on such a tight budget. As a contractor I once worked with a community that disbanded all employees in favor of citizen volunteers in order to save tax money.
Bathrooms Gerry: The recent directive from the federal government requiring the states to allow sexually confused persons to use the bathroom of their choice puts me in mind of the scripture in the 5th chapter of the book of Isaiah that warns us of woe to those who call evil good and good evil.
Law Enforcement “KISS” Principal and our Law Enforcement Citizens of Mason County (which includes City). A simple solution to this “frap” over duplication of Law Enforcement is that the County raise the tax base for everyone to cover their requirements. With the threat of bad weather, Mason Jr High golfers competed well in the second Mason Jr High Open. Because of STAAR testing last week, no schools wanted to host a tournament, so we did. Brady, Ingram and Brownwood joined us on Friday for a second go round. The Purple Puncher’s placed Second with Kyle Montoya finishing with 3rd place honors and Aaron Reardon placing 4th. The Jr. High Punchers and Cowgirls traveled to Kingsland last Monday and competed in an upper classification golf tournament. The golf tournament was hosted by Burnet Jr High School. Schools that were represented ranked from 2A to 5A. The Punchers and Cowgirls represented our school well. The Purple Punchers placed 5th and the White Punchers placed 13th.
Game Warden Randall Brown to be Guest Speaker The Hilda Community Club will meet this Friday, May 20th at the Hilda Community building on RR783 (about 4 miles south of Hwy 87S).Hosts will provide the main dish and drinks. Members are to bring sides or desserts. We will begin eating around 6:30 p.m. Our guest speaker will be Mason County Game Warden Randall Brown whose topic will be “From Eola to the Rio Grande – Life of a Modern Day Texas Game Warden”.

San Angelo, Texas was the site of the 2016 District Roundup Competition. Two Mason County 4-H members showcased their piano playing talent in the “Share-the-Fun” musical contest. MaKenna Palacio won 1st place in the junior division and was asked to perform at the awards ceremony. Kendra Klaerner placed 2nd in the senior division which qualified her to compete at State Roundup held in College Station, Texas during the month of June. Brady, Texas was the site of the 2016 H.O.T. Invitational Shoot on May 7. The results are as follows: Millie Marquart won 1st in BB 4 position and 2nd in 22 light rifle target. Marshall Marquart won 3rd in BB 4 position, 1st in BB silhouette. Graci Weber won 2nd in BB 4 position and 3rd in 22 silhouettes. Colby Brown won 3rd in 22 light rifle and 1st in air pistol target. The members of the Fort Mason American Legion Post 285 and Ladies Auxiliary opened their meeting with the pledge of allegiance and a prayer. The pledge was led by Commander Lawrence Spell and a prayer was offered by Stanley Brown. The Legionnaires and Auxiliary members were honored to share this month’s meeting with the dedicated volunteers who place American flags on the graves of veterans in Mason County to commemorate Memorial Day.
