David Otto Hoerster, of Mason and Fredericksburg, passed away on Saturday, May 21, at the age of 73.
David is survived by two sons Karl David Hoerster and wife Michelle, of Suffolk, Virginia and Chris Hoerster and wife Shannon of Austin. Vera Kinsey
Vera Violet Kinsey, age 95, passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 in Sterling City, Texas.
Graveside services for Ms. Kinsey will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2016 at Grit Cemetery in Grit, Texas. Family Visitation will be held an hour prior, from 1pm to 2pm.

Guitar virtuoso Rhett Butler will play at the Odeon theater in Mason Saturday June 11. Doors open at 6:30 PM and the surely to be “jaw dropping” performance begins at 7:00.

Mason County Republican Women (MCRW) honored the winners of our 2016 scholarships this last week at our regular May club meeting. This year’s recipients are Pete Rochat and Monaco Schmidt. Both Mason High School graduates submitted excellent essays, outstanding resumes and are soon to be college bound with very promising futures ahead of them.

Students who were in grades K-5 during the 2015-2016 school year may participate. Pre-K children may participate if a parent reads with them. Read to Swim will run Mondays to Thursdays from 1:00-2:00 P.M. When a child has read for 30 minutes, he or she will be given a free swim pass or coupon for Dairy Queen ice cream, and his or her name will go into a drawing for Walmart gift cards.

Another fun and exciting regular season of baseball and softball is almost in the books. We will hold our closing ceremonies at the ballpark this Thursday, 5/26 at 6:30 pm. Please come out and support our youth.
A special appreciation to all of our young baseball/softball players, parents, coaches and umpires for their commitment that enabled Mason to have another great season.
The Bridges of Mason County
A few weeks ago, representatives from the Texas Department of Transportation were at the Mason County Library to answer questions about upcoming road and bridge projects. The two folks manning the displays in the Stribling Room were helpful and had lots of great information to share.
The displays and handouts showed projects throughout the Austin District, of which Mason County is part.
