Hope you had a great Thanksgiving. Ours was quiet. We had two sets of company, all family. We ate too much, talked too much, and had a great time. Buster Terrell was our speaker at the Art United Methodist Church this week. We appreciate all the lay speakers that came to speak.
Column #654 for Release Saturday, Nov. 28, 2015, or Later A picture's worth equaling a thousand words has long gone unchallenged. Of course, few of us have been threatened by depth-probing questions aimed to determine how deeply we believe in the accuracy of this comparison. In the great scheme of things--maybe even schemes of modest proportions--it hasn't mattered.
Although it's not officially winter, I feel it's time to start wearing winter clothing. Texas weather is fickle, so Texans keep light clothing handy. I'm not saying in Texas you need Grizzly Adam outer wear, but a warm jacket is nice. Now is the time to think back to July, August and etc.
You may recall a recent column I allegedly wrote, about parachuting beavers. In 1950 the Idaho Fish & Game Dept. relocated a bunch of beavers from where they were to where they weren't, and some of the beavers were relocated via parachute. A few readers have written to me asking if that was a true story.
The Mason Lions Club met Tuesday, November 24th for its weekly luncheon meeting. There were 27 members and 8 visitors in attendance. It was announced that former Mason Lions Club President and District Governor John Gammil and his family were involved in a traffic accident in Rockwall where they now reside.
Wednesday. From Middle English "Wednes dei." Which comes from the Old English "Wodnes daeg." Which is like the Old Norse "Othinsdagr." Otherwise known as "Woden's day." According to Trusty Webster. This explains the letter "d" in Wednesday. In case anyone was wondering. Present-day proper pronunciation is "Wenz-day." But some of us say "WINS-day." Or "WINS-dee." And some just call it "Hump Day." That's because it's in the middle of the work week. Once you're over the hump, it's not long till Fr ...
If you are GRUMPY, DEPRESSED and IRRITABLE, read this. Your mood is determined not only by what you think and feel, but by physiological things such as blood sugar, food sensitivities, liver function and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. FOODS greatly influence the brain. Poor diets, particularly those with too much sugar, caffeine and junk food are a common cause of depression and irritability.
This is the third recipe in the "quick and easy" batch that I'm sharing with you all for this 2015 Holiday season. This one's kind of rich, but I'll bet you there's at least someone in your family that will really like it! Ingredients: 1 can apple pie filling 1 package of spice cake mix 3 eggs 2 teaspoons (or more, if you are a cinnamon lover!) ground cinnamon 1 cup powdered sugar Glaze (recipe included) Process: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Due to The Thanksgiving Holiday occupying most of our Seniors with family and friends we will not Spotlight one today. I saw a news story about a cat that is so incredibly fat he literally can't get up. He just lies around doing absolutely nothing. Hey, I know that guy and he lives here in Mason. Starbucks' traditional red holiday cups started a controversy after some groups declared the design wasn't Christmassy enough....
