Times ‘Squared’ on New Year’s Eve… Officials charged with safekeeping and maintaining order at Times Square in New York City on New Year’s Eve must have been sweating, even if the weather outside was frightful. The mass of humanity--estimated to number in excess of one million people--surely could have been forgiven had they chosen to celebrate indoors.
January is almost over. Where did it go? I think we spent our time running to doctor appointments and sitting at home shivering. We did have some cold weather. My greatest news is that my revamped greenhouse helped my plants survive. I was losing a lot of plants at 20 degrees.
Where were we? Oh yeah. Bugs. As in insects. Not Bugs Bunny. More like things that stick, sting, or bite. Which is nearly everything in Texas. Some are familiar. Though not necessarily desirable. Cockroach. Cricket. Grasshopper. Housefly. Termites. Both winged, and wingless. Then there’s the three evils. Rice weevil. White pine weevil. Cotton boll weevil. All self-explanatory. As are Asparagus beetle. Bark beetle. Potato beetle. Palm borer. Ma ...
Ice Storms and Missle Attacks - Early Warnings! As we made our way though Monday, the warnings began to get more urgent and dire. Mason could have up to an inch of ice and sleet, followed by snow. Temperatures would drop into the low to mid 20s during the day and the teens overnight Tuesday.
Pull Apart Garlic Bread I've made this bread several times, and it always comes out great. It's one of the few recipes I've found that I didn't feel like I had make any alterations to it to “improve” the taste or texture. Chunks of it torn off the loaves and dipped in a bit of warm marinara sauce or infused olive oil go great with just about any meal you plate up for the family.

Got gas? For the past two decades I’ve been poking fun at the folks in California, making light of their strange habits, using their silliness for my own enjoyment. There’s a simple reason for this – California is full of space cadets. No other state in the union leads with its chin as often as California, except maybe Florida.
We could use some of that “Global Warming” about now! All of us can’t just stay indoors, there are those who have to be out in the cold/hot! However, you can always put on more layers that you can take off! Hard on the livestock. I would love to write about a couple of things, but then they might get thrown out!
Extending a Coaching Trail… At their wedding 52 years ago in their hometown of Bangs, TX, Virginia and Lowell Bishop repeated “old school” vows. When she murmured the “whither thou goest” commitment, however, she gave little thought to the “whither thou stoppeth” milestone. Now, she’s not sure. Combined service for the career educators totaled 75 years (her, 38; him, 37) when they retired in 2001.
Beef Stroganoff Boat When it is time for Super Bowl I usually try to serve something like sub sandwiches or nachos, also when I can find another good recipe with ground beef I am glad to share. Onion Soup mix always makes things better and it cuts down on having to use as much seasoning. 1 loaf fresh French bread (Olive oil or Canola oil) 1-1/2 lbs.
