I’ve come of a certain age where drama isn’t in my life. Seems, I just roll with the punches. However, I have never seen so much stupidity, these last couple of years. The nightly news has gotten to be a comedy! I don’t know if I should cry or laugh.
In the late sixties, San Antonio had a TV station known as the, “Blood and Guts Station!” Gee, that station seems light compared to what they have now days.
Words Fail in New Orleans…
“Words failed us”--accompanied by a smiley face--provided a touch of grim humor on the front door of a bookstore when its owner declared Chapter XI bankruptcy.
Front-page headline writers for the New Orleans Times-Picayune reacted similarly following the Saints’ shocking last- second loss to the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League play-offs.
The words--printed in bold face--were huge, previously believed to be the font size held in reserv ...
We had a lovely week. It was not too cold and not too hot. Some in our community got rain. I don’t think it sprinkled at our house, but maybe next time will be our turn.
We had a great birthday celebration for son Scott on Sunday afternoon. How can my baby be 34 years old?
The key to long life—
Learn somethin’ new every day.
If we’re lucky.
Once we depart from formal education, the rest is up to us.
So here’s some fascinating facts.
Buzzards do not eat cattle killed by lightning.
Overcooked perhaps?
Buzzards do not eat rabid roadkill.
Something about the body temperature.
They sense the rabid meat is “off” just a bit.
You think?
What gourmands.
‘Course, you never see a buzzard eating another buzzard.
Blecchh.
But they d ...

Leisure Time Activities in Mason
Back when I lived in Austin, the weekends were a smorgasboard of possible activities. In a large urban area, especially one located on rivers, lakes and hills, Austin provided endless possibilities for fun and recreation. Many of them were free, or cost very little. At the other end of the spectrum were the more expensive weekend offerings that the capitol city offered; and, those also were almost endless.
When I moved back to Mason, I had to make a few ad ...
Classic Sandwich Bread
For sandwiches, toast and French Toast, you just can't beat a Classic American Sandwich loaf. With its creamy white interior, golden crust, and soft, easily sliceable texture, you will probably want to have one in your pantry and one in the freezer at all times.
Ingredients:
3 cups King Arthur Unbleached All-Purpose flour (other flours will work quite nicely)
½ cup milk
1/2-2/3 cup hot water; adjust amount to make a nice, soft smooth dough.
¼ cup melted bu ...
Please don’t forget that tomorrow, Don Day, a retired technical writer with a lifelong interest in the history of photography, will present “The Ones That Didn’t Get Away!” Don is a photo historian and camera collector who also develops any film left in the cameras. The foyer display of some of his cameras is wonderful, and I’m looking forward to his program at 6:30 P.M.
Bon appetit
Mark Twain once said, “When a child turns 12 he should be kept in a barrel and fed through the bung hole, until he reaches 16, at which time you should plug the bung hole.” I’m beginning to think ol’ Mark was onto something.
Teenagers have lately begun to do some really stupid things.
Thawing out! Television news is all about the “Shut Down!” Not interested in the Super Bowl play offs! Reruns on the television! Nothing seems to be going right in the world. Corruption in the government! Gee, the only laughter I get is in emails and Facebook!
The only time I’m not thinking about food or smoking is when I’m on the internet.
