What we had this past weekend was not a “cold snap.” It was a COLD GROWL! Nor was it a “three dog night.” More like a Five Dog Day and Night! But, we made it through. Some must have suffered from Cabin Fever! Some of us adjusted to staying indoors without having to produce an excuse.
Make Way for Uncle Mort... Most folks in the thicket were surprised to learn that an “uppity lady from up north” had become owner of the crossroads general store on New Year’s Day. Finding her name--Sadie Ladarovich--tough to pronounce, my Uncle Mort slapped a nickname on her that’ll likely stick. “Sadie the Lady” from the outset, she announced several changes for the store. Patrons applauded her daily breakfast specials.
The first week of the year is usually a busy and often confusing period when there are a number of tasks to end one year and get the new year started in the right directions. Last week our County Judge, Jerry Bearden, did a great job of getting a change that I believe will positively impact our traffic around the square and through town.
Art was a busy place this weekend. Steve Toone and his Patriot Warrior Foundation had a large group of disabled veterans on area ranches hunting. The lunch on Friday was a combination of great food and good fellowship. The crowd was much larger than last year. My husband John was honored with a quilt of valor.

It's Tough To Be A Hermit in 2018! With the whirlwind of holiday activities now behind us, I find people more and more focused on "me time." All of the relatives have been sent back to their homes. Meals can now be made without multiple trips to the grocery store for supplies.
Rapture In typing this letter it is necessary yp frony for me to state that I respect Reverend Arthur F, Nelms Sr. as a man of the cloth and present this as information only. First a typo in scripture referencethere is no 2 Thessalonians 4:1 as the Book contains only 3 chapters.
Orange Stir-’n-Drop Cookies courtesy: thedailymeal.com These are great cookies that are very fresh tasting and rather light in texture and are sure to become a regular in your house. They’re also quite easy to make, so even those of you who might be “baking challenged” can tackle this recipe and come out as a winner. Ingredients: 2 large eggs at room temperature 2/3 cup vegetable oil 1 tablespoon vanilla extract 1 teaspoon grated orange zest ¾ cup sugar 2 cups all-p ...
I want to applaud David Hyden and the city crew for creating the wonderful light display behind the library in Heritage Park! We and so many others have enjoyed it so much! I hope they do it again next year. If you run into any of them, be sure to thank them. Save the penguins Once, when I was about thirteen, several of my friends and I camped overnight by a creek in January. The next morning the temperature was in the teens, and there was ice along the edge of the water, and one of the guys dared me to go swimming.
