Merry Christmas, God Bless Us Everyone!
Christmas eve, and Christmas day, fall on a Saturday and Sunday this year. While it seems wholly appropriate that Christmas day should occur on a Sunday, the timing has played havoc with schedules for the end of this week and the beginning of next week.
By consensus, the folks at the News office decided that we would be closed on Friday, giving everyone a three-day weekend.
Come have cookies with us on Tuesday and bring the kids for a Christmas Story Time with Shay DeVos at 3:00 P.M.! Also, it’s not too late to bring goodies for shelter dogs and cats. We’ll be closed on Friday, Dec. 23rd, and Monday, Dec. 26th. Merry Christmas!

Those readers who happen to belong to the female gender can just skip this column, since it doesn’t pertain to women in the least. This column is strictly offered for the guys, because guys typically wait until the last minute to do their Christmas shopping, under the assumption that life as we know it could possibly come to a screeching halt before December 25, and they’ll be off the hook for buying gifts.
Memories at Christmas Time...
‘Tis the season to reclaim memories. Thanks be to God for treasured recollections, and for His giving us the discernment to call pleasant ones into play from days gone by.
And why not? To dwell on unpleasant ones is gain for no one. The ones we value greatest are as welcome chestnuts roasting on an open fire, or rides across fields in a one-horse open sleigh.

Moving Through the Rest of 2016...
Every week, we here at the News finish one paper and get ready to move on to the next. Preparation for the next issue involves erasing all the articles, photos, calendars and details from the current week and looking one week, two weeks, a month ahead.
Dutch Oven Bread

In my constant quest for breads and other baked goods that are quick to make and great to eat, I occasionally stumble across a real winner. This is one of those breads! The total “active involvement” time by the baker is really small; possibly 20 minutes, at the outside.
For many of us, December is a “cooking” month, and I’m always on the hunt for a new recipe. Of course, the library has a great cookbook section, but don’t forget our magazines: Food Network, Southern Living, Better Homes and Gardens, Country Living, Woman’s Day, and others will offer their holiday recipes as well.

Let’s say you’re out mowing your lawn and you run over an Australian green tree frog. Not that such a thing is likely to happen, if you live in Texas, since Australian green tree frogs are native to Australia. Which is a good thing, I guess.
